A LETTER FROM OUR CHAIR
Dear Theta Phi Alphas and Friends,
I am delighted to share our journey over the past year and to highlight how your generous donations have continually supported our membership
Our Foundation’s directors and Ambassadors remain steadfast in their commitment to work with the Grand Council as we invest in the future of our organization. This dedication is reflected in our ongoing mission to provide scholarships to our members and our expanded efforts to support leadership programming for the Fraternity as well as assist members during times of need through our Disaster Relief Grants.
I am thrilled to announce the endowment of two new scholarships the Charmaine Lalane Memorial Scholarship and the Mary E. (Dyson) King, Gamma Mu Memorial Scholarship. For details regarding the stories behind these scholarships, please refer to the article included in this annual report.
We would also like to extend our sincere gratitude to Lucy Holmes-Higgin, Alpha Epsilon, who, after stepping back from her director role, continues to support our mission as an ambassador. In addition, we are pleased to welcome our new ambassadors: Ainsley Robson (Alpha Tau), Erin Reede (Beta Theta), Margaret Brown (Kappa), Jessica Seleman (Delta Omicron), Meagan Compton (Chi), and Mia Siclari (Kappa). We hope you will join us in welcoming these outstanding volunteers.
As we continue our work in “Setting the Direction” for the future, we recognize that our progress would not be possible without your Ever Loyal commitment and Ever Lasting support. For that, we are profoundly grateful.
Sincerely,

Theta Phi Alpha Foundation

UPDATE ON OUR PROJECTS AMPLIFYING SORORITY
In late 2023, Theta Phi Alpha Foundation collaborated with Theta Phi Alpha Fraternity to donate $10,000 towards the Foundation for Fraternal Excellence’s research project: Amplifying Sorority. This is a research campaign designed to run from 2023 to 2026, with information provided to their donors on their findings.
Due to our donation, Theta Phi Alpha Fraternity has been able to use resources with information regarding who Generation Z is, how to appeal to the incoming and evolving sorority members, and resources to help us fine-tune how we present ourselves to attract new membership We look forward to more information as this project continues.
PHIRED UP: RECRUITMENT GAINS
The Theta Phi Alpha Foundation not only supported research on future sorority membership recruitment but also collaborated with Theta Phi Alpha Fraternity to sponsor the implementation of Phired Up’s ChapterBuilder This tool was introduced to the general membership during the 2023 Officer Leadership Training (OLT) at the University of Maryland
With the ability to track overall growth, Theta Phi Alpha Fraternity submitted recruitment numbers to Phired Up in May 2023, prior to OLT When the data was pulled again in May 2024, we observed a 5% increase in recruitment These early results are encouraging, and we remain hopeful for an even greater increase when the next set of numbers is reported in May of this year.

SCHOLARSHIP REBRAND
Theta Phi Alpha Foundation Directors and the Theta Phi Alpha Grand Council met with Dr Mari Ann Callais, past National President of Theta Phi Alpha and a higher education & leadership expert, to help both organizations rethink their strategic plans. During the discussion, the Theta Phi Alpha Foundation Directors explored the possibility of rebranding their academic scholarships
Announced in 2024, the Theta Phi Alpha Foundation’s academic scholarships were rebranded to shift their focus from honoring our founders to reflecting our six core values. The Foundation Directors are pleased with the opportunities this rebrand provides Now in its second year, the rebrand has allowed us to offer larger scholarship amounts to our members.

WE ARE THE
Starting an endowment with the Theta Phi Alpha Foundation may seem like a challenging endeavor, but it’s an exciting opportunity to create a lasting impact! You might have questions about how to begin, how to fund it, or what cause to support—but you're not alone. In 2024, two endowments were successfully established, demonstrating the power of dedication and generosity. To inspire and guide those considering this meaningful journey, Theta Phi Alpha directors sat down with two passionate champions, Jennifer Hubbley Klug and Dr. Amanda Horvat, to share their valuable insights and experiences.

The Mary King Dyson Memorial Scholarship was created in memory of Mary King Dyson, a founding member of the Gamma Mu Chapter at Clarkson University, NY. Mary also served in the United States military in Afghanistan. Mary was the heart and soul -- the one who brought levity and warmth to every situation. Her empathy knew no bounds, and her contagious spirit ensured that no one ever felt alone or forgotten. She had an uncanny way of making everyone feel seen and valued, offering a shoulder to cry on when needed, yet never taking herself too seriously. Tragically, in 2018, Mary’s life was cut short in a devastating limousine crash, which claimed her life, as well as the lives of her husband, three of her biological sisters, and their significant others. Mary’s son and one of her sisters’ children were among those left to carry on without their mothers.
After retiring from the Grand Council in 2016 and losing Mary in 2018, Jennifer Hubbley Klug sat at the Fraternity Night banquet dinner of the 2022 National Convention. Jennifer reflected on her bond with her beloved sister and fellow Gamma Mu founding member, Mary, and felt something profound stir inside of her as the evening unfolded.
She wanted to create a way to ensure Mary’s spirit would continue to touch the lives of others in a meaningful way, helping young women pursue their dreams, just as Mary had done for so many. Jenn immediately reached out to a few sisters she knew would share her passion and vision, and together, they created the Mary King Dyson scholarship endowment. The Mary King Dyson scholarship was fully endowed in record time. Jennifer was thrilled to share the news with Mary’s parents and the chapter. All of whom were thrilled to continue honoring Mary’s memory meaningfully.
Jennifer advises those considering creating an endowment to find others who are as passionate about the cause as you are -- those who genuinely believe in the mission and are willing to work alongside you. Collaboration is key. Also, explore every possible avenue for funding, including company matching programs, family and friends, and even partnering with chapters or organizations to host fundraising efforts. Get creative with how you source the support to bring your vision to life.

CHAMPIONS

The Charmaine LaLane Memorial Scholarship was created in memory of Charmaine LaLane, a member of the Alpha Epsilon Chapter at St. John’s University, NY. In the chapter, In 2001, Charmaine joined the Alpha Epsilon chapter during a period of significant growth, quickly becoming a vibrant presence with her infectious energy, warmth, and passion for theatre and music. Charmaine made everyone feel included and inspired her chapter members to embrace the arts by spearheading an annual lip sync competition for her chapter. Tragically, Charmaine’s life was cut short in a car accident while on her way to campus for a recruitment event. Charmaine was serving as Alpha Epsilon’s president at the time of her passing, a role she embraced with grace, vision, and an unshakeable sense of sisterhood. In her honor, the Alpha Epsilon chapter established a benefit supporting the performing arts to celebrate Charmaine’s legacy. To this day, alumnae continue to educate members on Charmaine’s story and support the tradition, ensuring that Charmaine’s light and love for the arts live on.
The creation of the Charmaine LaLane endowment started as a performing arts benefit held at St. John’s where some proceeds went to the Theta Phi Alpha Foundation in her honor. In 2022, the decision was made to establish a lasting legacy by officially creating the endowment, ensuring Charmaine’s impact would endure for generations. The champions of the fund had an end goal -- to fund the endowment by the National Convention in 2024 entirely.

Their milestone was proudly achieved during the Founder’s Day Roll Call at Theta Phi Alpha’s 2024 Convention in Baltimore, MD.
Dr. Amanda Horvat, Alpha Epsilon, was a graduate student when Charmaine was active in the chapter. As one of the endowment’s champions, Dr. Horvat advises others to set goals, create a timeline, and establish SMART objectives to guide their efforts. Building relationships, making connections outside of Theta Phi Alpha, and storytelling are beneficial in communicating your vision and goals for the legacy of your endowment. Surrounding yourself with a support team will help you achieve your mission. Dr. Horvat credits the support system she found in the New Orleans area when she moved from New York as pivotal in accelerating the endowment's success. For collegiate members considering starting endowments, knowing alumnae support will be crucial in making it a reality. If you are passionate about a specialized cause, don’t hesitate to take the first step. Theta Phi Alpha Foundation will help shape your vision into something that can create a lasting change.

CONVENTION 2024 RECAP
Building memories with a purpose

Theta Phi Alpha Foundation Room
The Theta Phi Alpha Foundation is a proud and dedicated supporter of Theta Phi Alpha Fraternity conventions. We are honored to help create meaningful experiences by sponsoring special events such as a meal and the prestigious Siena Medal presentation, when awarded. However, what brings us the greatest fulfillment is curating the Foundation Room a warm, welcoming space where sisters can come together, celebrate their shared bonds, and fully embrace the spirit of being a Theta Phi Alpha In 2024, we focused on the experience of creating conversations, celebrating our history, and waking up with fun brain teasers each morning to get us going

Celebrating Where We Come From
The Sisterhood of the Traveling Jenga Blocks made its way to Convention 2024 after debuting at Officer Leadership Training in 2023. Throughout the event, the sound of tumbling blocks echoed as members signed their names on existing chapter blocks or added chapters from the past, along with alumnae associations—further enriching this growing tradition. We were honored to welcome the blocks back to Convention and unveil our newest addition: the Roadmap of Theta Phi Alpha, a pushpin map created to commemorate and celebrate our shared memories.
Introducing the New
We were excited to carry on our beloved convention fundraising traditions, including the Penguin Parade of Prizes, Founder’s Day Roll Call, and our popular T-shirt raffles. This year, we were especially thrilled to launch a brand-new event — Mystery Boxes! For just $20 per box, attendees had the fun of uncovering a surprise gift card valued anywhere from $25 to $75. Quickly becoming a crowd favorite, Mystery Boxes are set to make their return at Convention in 2026!

The Theta Phi Alpha Relief Fund was established in 2005, in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, to offer a helping hand to members impacted by Presidentially-declared disasters. These grants are designed to assist with urgent needs — such as food, clothing, and temporary housing — especially when insurance or FEMA assistance falls short.
While we hope no member ever faces such hardship, we are here to provide comfort and support when it’s needed most. If you or a fellow Theta Phi Alpha are struggling due to a disaster, please don’t hesitate to reach out — or have someone reach out on your behalf — so we can step in with help as quickly as possible. For more information and resources, visit the

nt to a member who was impacted by Hurricane Helene. Hurricane Helene was a devastating storm that left a lasting impact on Florida and beyond. Making landfall near Perry, Florida, on September 26, Helene roared ashore as a powerful Category 4 hurricane, marking it as one of the most significant storms of the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season.
The hurricane’s 500-mile swath of damage uprooted homes, flooded neighborhoods, and left countless families displaced and struggling to recover. Power outages and infrastructure damage compounded the challenges for residents, many of whom are still working to rebuild their lives and communities.
At Theta Phi Alpha Foundation, we are reminded that during disasters like Helene, our mission to uplift and support one another becomes more vital than ever. Our hearts are with all those affected, and we remain committed to providing relief and hope to our sisters and their communities as they recover and rebuild.
