Small ruminant clinic April 20 UW-Extension will be hosting a Small Ruminant clinic April 20, at the Ag Center in Baldwin. Small ruminants (goats and sheep) can be a good fit for small acreages or farms looking to diversify livestock operations. This clinic will be an opportunity for those interested in learning more about goats and sheep, with an emphasis on meat production. Topics for the clinic include: Management Tips for Small Ruminants Marketing Your Goats and Lambs
Considerations for Facilities, including Renovating Retired Dairy Facilities for Goats and Sheep It will be from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Ag Service and Education Center, 1960 8th Ave, Baldwin. Call for nominations for Land Conservation Leadership Awards Gathering Waters is calling for nominations for the 2015 Land Conservation Leadership Awards. “We want to recognize the individuals and organizations whose actions and leadership are protecting the places that make Wisconsin special,” Gathering Waters Executive Director Mike Strigel says. “These awards honor the power of committed citizens whose efforts offer inspiring examples of conservation success.” Award categories include Land Trust of the Year, Policy Maker of the Year, the Rod Nilsestuen Award for Working Lands Preservation, Award with a Harold “Bud” Jordahl Distinction, or Conservationist
of the Year. Past awardees reflect the breadth of the land conservation movement and include the City of La Crosse, the Ice Age Trail Alliance, the President of the Wisconsin Towns Association, the Baraboo Hills - Hwy 12 Land Preservation Team, authors, philanthropists, a group of neighbors, Governor Doyle, state senators and volunteers statewide. “The Land Trust of the Year award was more than a one-night honor,” said Nelson French, then-executive director of the Kinnickinnic River Land Trust, a former Land Trust of the Year award recipient. “That designation aided our outreach work all year
and galvanized support from the local community we serve throughout the Kinnickinnic River watershed.” Individuals and organizations may submit nominations for themselves or others. To submit a nomination for an individual or organization, please visit Gathering Waters’ website at www.gatheringwaters.org. Nominations will be accepted until May 22, 2015. Gathering Waters will recognize 2015 recipients at its annual awards celebration in Madison on Sept. 24. Gathering Waters’ mission is to help land trusts, landowners and communities protect the places that make Wisconsin special.
