Search for SCF superintendent is on BY SAMANTHA FOUNTAIN CONTRIBUTING WRITER

Roni Schuler, president of the Saint Croix Falls Board Of Education, recently expressed that the board’s search for a new superintendent has been a positive experience thus far. Since current superintendent Glenn Martin announced his retirement in late January, the board has taken steps to find a replacement. Applications were accepted through mid-March. The school board received a variety of responses. From those applicants, the board found that six were qualified for the position. Those applicants passed the initial background screening and have education and experience matching the district’s needs. Three interview committees were formed with seven members volunteering on each committee. Each committee had a variety of individuals, including community members, school staff, supervisors, administrators and board members. The volunteers were representative of the district: There were staff from the Dresser Elementary as well as the SCF elementary, middle and high schools. There were individuals from all geographic areas of the district and parents students as well as retired individuals, coaches, a representative from

the kitchen and one from the bus garage. Every effort was made to ensure that there was diversity and representation of the school and community. The board collected scripted questions for the interviews initially. This was important because there are many facets to the superintendent position and it was important to that each committee hear from each candidate on these topics. Allowing time for unscripted questions was also important, allowing the committees to get a fuller picture of the candidates. Interviews took place over two nights. Applicants were given a tour of the SCF campus by two current students, who then gave informal written feedback regarding their applicant. Following the tour, each candidate was interviewed by each of the three committees. Committees were encouraged to have discussions regarding the interviews, making notes of pros and cons for each. After the second night of interviews, the committees had further discussion prior to reconvening as a large group. Following that, there were two candidates that all committees clearly agreed on. The board has invited those two individuals back for second interviews, which the district will hold on Tues., April 7.
