that THE&UTE'S position relative to the body it represents is not fully understood. Before a paper can hope to achieve any degree of success it must explain its purposes, its right to exist, its right to solicit aid. These points, the editors believed, were quite fully expounded in the first issue of the present volume as well as in the talk delivered by the head of the Board at the Mass Meeting. Probably they did not write and speak plainly enough. If so, the fault lies with ourselves, and the dissatisfaction felt in the support received is unfounded.

'Ik1-2STUTErepresents the student body of Stevens Institute. It is a mirror in which is reflected undergraduate life at that institution- It is neither concave nor convex, nor a combination of the two, but its image is true to its object.

THE STUTEis the property of every man in the Institute, be he s~tbscriberor mi!.It is no one man's paper, it is no one party's paper, it is no one class' paper, and it is not the editors' paper.

It is everybody's paper, but placed in the care of four Seniors by the latter's predecessors. Upon the former Board devolved the responsibility of laying the paper's management upon the shoulders of men whom they knew would continue it in a spirit as fair and impartial as that in which it was begun. Whether

is to sneak behind the alleged offender's back, deliver the punishment that the offence warrants (or more), and then steal away as adroitly as before. Another way, and that resorted to by men, would be to face his opponent and settle differences. Can a more honorable method be pursued? If a paper be the medium of circulating an argument, ought not the same medium be employed in answering or criticising it as the case may be ? Can decency, tact and good sense suggest a better plan? Could these attributes ordinarily possessed by men, suggest the circulation of ano¼aymo posters? And to climax the whole, does it not appear incredible that such means should have been resorted to by some men at Stevens ? The incident referred to is the circulation about the Institute of printed posters in response to a public letter written by a Junior. Not contented with this base method of attacking a fellow student, even the English of the letter failed, to escape abuse. Such indications of tactlessness and lack of decency are fortunately extremely rare in such a body of men as Stevens' undergraduates. Had the poster been the offense would have been mitigated, and suspicion won have fallen upon a body of men as the inferences of the poster have caused, and as subsequent inquiries have disproved. In justice to those upon whom suspicion first fell, it can be stated that they were the most determined in the efforts made to establish the miscreants' identity. The latter evidently appreciated the shame which would result in the event of their discovery.

But what right has. TUBSTUTBto interfere in this poster is the studentaffair ? Because, in the first place, THE STUTE body's organ, and that body being a body of men protests such cowardly attacks; secondly, THESTTOE has a right to proteat its correspondents from infamous abuse. Why could not the originators of that poster have written a letter for publication in their paper? I t would have received attention from the editors as well as the other letter did. That, at least, would have been the legitimate and honorable method of procedure, and would undoubtedly have saved him or them the pangs of a troubled conscience.

The impression that a f& seem to possess, that THIS STUTE is not impartial might have prompted the poster method of retaliating injury. The editors regret the existence of such impressions, but feel certain that there is no cause for them. Being everybody's paper, everybody is treated alike. The complete elimination of faction differencesand the establishment of genuinefriendship among all, is one of THESTOTB'S most sought for achievements.

Baseball a Varsity Sport.

The appended report of the Faculty Committee on Athletics requires no further explanation.

Executive Board of Athletic Association, Stevens Institute of Technology.

DBAR SIR-March 6, 1905, a conference was held in the president's office, at which were present President Humphreys, Dr. Sevenoak, and Dr. Pond as the Faculty Conln~itteeon Athletics; the Executive Committee.of the Athletic Association represented, by Erlenkotter, Comstock, Norris, Pratt, Bedell, and Hegeman; Davis, Captain of the Lacrosse Team; and representing the baseball interests there were present Beckman, Gaffney, Henes, and Cowenhoven.

After a full discussion an agreement was arrived at, and this agreement was put in the form of a writtenstateineiit and a copy sent to each interest represented, and the statement so made was formally accepted by each interest.

This statement contained the following six sections : 1.-That the Baseball Team is to play on the field with some insignia, such as "Stevens Baseball Club," but such insignia is not to be worn anywhere except on the diamond.

2.-That of the extra subscriptions canvassed by the baseball men, plus President Humphreys's additional subscription, and Dr. Sevenoak's subscription, fifty per cent. is to go to the Baseball Club and the rest to the Athletic Association.

3.- If the showing- of the Baseball Club during the season of 1905 is considered good by President Humphreys and the Faculty Athletic advisors, baseball shall be recognized as a 'Varsity sport by the Athletic Association and a revision of the Constitution shall be made on points touching- the same.

4.-Baseball not to be recognized in any way what:oever d ~ ~ n r g the season of 1905 except as mentioned ,above.

5.-The practice of the Baseball Club to he at the "Castle Point" Grounds. T h e practice of the Lacrosse Team to be at the St. George Cricket Grounds. The games of the Baseball Club to be played only on such Wednesdays a r d Saturdays as the I,acrosse Team is away or not using the grounds, and the Wednesdays that the Baseball Club is using the Cricl-et . Grounds the Lacrosse Team to be allowed to practice on the "Castle Point" Grounds.

6.-It is understood that all Faculty rules which apply to n embers of regular teams shall also apply to the members of the Baseball Club.

Referring to Section No, 3, we, the Faculty Committee on Athletics, after having' given careful consideration to the facts as they developed and to the statements and arguments presented by thos? at present representing the Athletic- Association and-the basiball interests, decide that the showing made by the Baseball

Club during the past season has been 'good." We therefore a& the officers of the Athletic Association to call a meeting at an early date at which this communication shdl be read and the necessary revision of the Constitution, as mentioned in Section No. 3, shall be made. In this connection we beg to remind the Association that its income has been very materially increased by the Baseball Club as outlined in Article No. 2.

I n conclusion, we wish to express the hope that the final outcome of this decision will be to cultivate in Stevens Institut a more general interest in athletics and a broader and mor Very truly yours, highly developed college spirit.

Fordham and Brooklyn Poly. Games.

The student body is undoubtedly anxious to know why the 'Varsity did not play the games scheduled with Fordham and Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute on the two Saturdays just passed.

Fordham was unable to play because of some unforseen religeous ceremonies which the faculty imposed upon them at the last minute, at least that is their side of the affair. The game was not broken off until so late in the week that it was impossible to arrange another game for the fourteenth. Brooklyn Poly. made up their schedule and then found out that they could not support a team, which made it necessary for them. to cancel all their dates, and we had the misfortune to be on their schedule. They noti- fied us quite early in the week, however, and made it possible to arrange a game with Orange. ,Editor's Note.]

It seems hardly right for THBSTUTEto let this occasion pass without protesting against this frequent cancelling- of games. A college as well as an individual should have some honor to uphold and when it has arrane-ed a contest, should not break its word without soitae pretty good reason. We do not know where to fix the blame in these cases but fault there must be somewhere.

Religeous ceremonies do not usually occur spontaneously on a Saturday afternoon. If Brooklyn Polytech. was unable to support a. team at all why was this not known before games were arranged, or at least by the beginning of the season. And if there was some support, October 21st seems a rather early date for funds, expected to last a whole season, to give out. We have not yet forgotten that Harvard Lacrosse game which could not be played because on the date arranged two or three Cambridge men had to take examinations. We admit that examinations do sometimes occur more frequently than we desire, but at Stevens, at any rate, they occur on days appointed long in advance, and even if two, three, four or five Stevens men were out, we feel sure our team would play and accept defeat rather than disgrace.

Stevens-Crescent Lacrosse Game.

On Saturday, October 14, the Stevens Lacrosse team played its first fall practice game with the Crescent Athletic Club at Bay Ridge. The showing made by the team has raised our expectations very high, and with the improvement after fall and spring practice we should turn out a team of the first order, with great prospects for the 1906 season.

At Bay Ridge the surroundings were an inspiration for good playing. With a large and enthusiastic audience, a perfect day, and faultless grounds, every man went out with the intention of playing his best.

the field with a rush, and after a display of remarkable stick handling and good generalship, shot a goal i n less than one minute of play, thus clearly showing the calibre of the team Stevens was lined up against. But our men were on their mettle and proved to Crescent she had no mean adversary, for it was thirteen minutes before Crescent made another goal. In this interval the ball had been taken time after time into the enemy's territory, and accurate shots were made by Gayley, Murray, and Helms, but Ford was between the ball and net every time.

Sturken also showed u p well, stopping several cannon-ball shots.

At last E. Miller made a goal from a ball Starken tossed out in stopping a hard throw from Raymond.

The game so far had been hard throughout, but Stevens now set a pace that completely outstripped the Crescents, and although their defense made a great effort to keep our attack from scoring, it was only a few minutes before Roberts shot a goal from a pass

by Davis. Neither side succeeded in scoring again and the first half closed, Cresent 2, Stevens 1.

The second half opened with a whirl, the ball being carried rapidly up and down the field. While there were no sensational plays, the game was intensely exciting, both teams playing with a snap and vim that held the attention every instant. In a minute and a half 0'Rouke shot a third oal for Crescent. After the face-off the play became faster than ever. Davis now made the only sensational play of the game by body checking one of the Crescent's biggest players, and throwing him over his shoulder. Roberts again made a goal, after eleven minutes play, by sending one of his long rifle-ball shots which found a hole in the Cresent's wary defense. Here our own defense showed up to the best advantage and proved of what material they were made.

Crescent put forth a great effort to lengthen their lead, but our defense seemed impregnable. When the Bay Ridge attack was able to break through our outer defense Sturken was sure of preventing a goal. I t was not until twenty minutes after the face-off at the start of the half that OIRouke was able to score the fourth goal for Crescent. Stevens soon followed with another goal which was made by Davis on a pass from Gayley. The final score: Crescent 4, Stevens 3.

Orange Y. M. C. A. 'Game.

A game with Brooklyn Polytechnic was scheduled for Saturday, October 21, but their team did not materialize; " so they cancelled their engagement and the management of our team was lucky in getting a game with the Orange Y. M. C. A. It was a great day for football-cool enough to put ginger in every man's blood. All the plays went off with a snap and dash that made things interesting from start to finish. The game was especially marked for its open and fast play. There were few mass plays -and most of the good gains were made by end runs.

Our team was heavier than the Orange team and outplayed them up to the latter part of the second half, when the better physical condition of the visitors prevented us from rolling up a bigger score.

Roberts kicked off at 3.45 and Comstock downed the runner after he had brought the ball back 15 yards. Y. M. C. A. tried our line, but were held for downs. Roberts made a 10 yard quarter-back run around right end-Thayer added five, but fumbled and Y. M. C. A. got the ball. Their kick was blocked and Comstock fell on the ball. Pratt made a great hurdle for a touch-down, after four minutes play. Roberts punted out and kicked goal-score, 6-0. Stevens kicked off and the Orange man Y. M. C. A. was nailed as soon as he touched the pigskin. tried a long run around left end, but Comstock broke through, got his man, and fell on the ball at the 10 yard line. Cowenhoven made 6 yards and Van Syckle carried the ball across the line. Roberts failed to kick the goal-score, 11-0.

Y. M? C. A. brought the ball to their 30 yard line and tried a trick play by a long pass to the left, but Thayer got his man after a short gain. On the next play Comstock broke through and had the runner five yards back of their line up. Their kick was a failure and Leonhard caught the ball at the place it was kicked. Our quarter-back and both half-backs made short distances, then Van Syckle made three good gains and Pratt again hurdled for a touch-down-score, 17-0.

After the kick off by Y. M, C. A., Thayer made an end run of 15 yards, Fonder, who was substituted for Hearsey, got 4 yards through tackle and Roberts was good for 15 yards around right end. Then tandems were used for good gains and Van Syckle was carried across the line for a fourth touch-down in nineteen minutes of play. Roberts kicked the goal-score, 23-0.

Y. M. C. A. kicked off to the 5 yard line, Roberts punted out of bounds and Thayer fell on the ball. Again Roberts punted and T h a ~ e ragain got the ball and this time was not stopped till he had taken it to Orange's 15 yard line, but the pigskin was given to Y. M. C. A. on protest that they had not touched the ball. Restendorf, the Orange left-half back, made a long end run just as time was called. Score at end of first half, Stevens 23, Y. M. C. A. 0. t i

' At the openin& of the second half, Y. M. C. A. kicked 0 and Van Syckle brought it back 20 yards and on the first plav made 15 yards more. ??hayet-now made two 20 yard runs around left end. On the second run, when he scored the touchdown, he made a complete semicircle around the Orange team, placing the ball back of the goal. Roberts kicked the goal for the fourth time, bringing the score to 29-0.

The visitors now took a big brace and made their best showing. After the kick off, they made good gains around ends and by tandem plays. But Stevens held after they had made some 30 yards and an exchange of punts followed in which we got the best of it. Killsinger was substituted for Patton and on the next play Y. M. C. A. made a good gain, but were penalized 15 yards for holding ; po were forced to kick. Now for the first time in the game Stevens was held for downs, but the Orange team lost the ball immediately. Thayer made 10 yards, then Pratt tried a drop kick, but missed. Here the Orange quarter was hurt and Stevens again had the ball. 'X'yson was substituted for Lewis and Wilson for Thayer. Our team made big gains by line bucking and Van Syckle carried the ball over for the sixth touchdown-score, 35-0.

The Rag Baby R u s h .

According to arrangements made by a committee of five Seniors and five Juniors, the annual Rag Baby Rush between the Freshmen and Sophomores was held on Wednesday, October 18th. Both classes formed a t the Institute shortly after three o'clock, and marched to the Cricket Grounds in lock-step, interfereing considerably on the way down with the wagon and trolley traffic on Washington Street.

Upon arrivalat the Cricket Grounds the two classes marched once around the field, called their rolls and finally came to rest on either side of the baby ; the Sophomores numbering 80 and the Freshmen 120.

I n the first round which started at 3.45, '08 carried the baby way into the Freshmen's territory. The Freshmen soon got busy however and then the baby started slowly back and at the end of five minutes it was so near the centre line that Referee Burling '06 pronounced it a tie. The Sophomore president appealed from this decision and the committee gave it to '08.

I n the second round everything went to the Freshmen.

When the baby was tossed in the air by two of the upper-classmen both classes rushed for it with determination showing "in every movement. They met and caught the baby, and for a moment the mass remained absolutely still, and then slowly and surely it began to move. Back and back went '08 with '09 pressing hard. Time bad to be called repeatedly to enable the men to regain their feet, but the rush went on, and '09 continued to force the Sophs back faster and faster until it seemed as, if they must push the baby over the goal line. But just before this line was reached '08 took a brace and held so that when time was called the baby was found to be about eighteen yards in the Sophomores territory. Each class had won a round. The next would decide it.

As soon as the pistol cracked for the third round, '08, with a grand rush carried the baby over the centre line for about five yards. Then after a struggle '09 forced it back in the Soph's territory, and just before time was called had carried it almost to the goal line. At this point '08 tried a movement around end and succeeded in taking' the baby back to within ten yards of the centre line, when time was called.

This gave the contest to the Freshmen, who immediately made a rush for the baby, and picking it up, marched with it in triumph to the Institute, tired but victorious.

of The Wle: DEAR Sm:-Since there has been considerable misunderstanding concerning the action taken by the majority of the Junior Class regarding the appointment of this year's Link

Board, a word of explanation is due the student body and friends of Stevens Institute.

Link has always appeared in the guise of a Junior Class publication, which suggested to the class the idea that. as a body, it ought to control the election of all the editors of the book for which it was apparently responsible. A motion was accordingly made to this effect at the regular class meeting. The fraternity men immediately raised very strenuous opposition, making-many statements concerning their connections with the finances of past issues of Link. So pointed and emphatic were these claims that, had the matter been voted upon immediately, it would have shown how completely the proposers of the motion had been scared into believing what has since been proved to be gross exaggeration.

The matter was laid over and a representative committee of fraternity men and neutrals was asked to discuss the matter with President Humphreys.

During the meeting in the tatter's office, the following was brought to light. The representatives of the fraternities stated, undeniably, that Link was not a class publication but a fraternity book which stated in its preface that it was ''published by the Junior Class of Stevens Institute," simply to give the impression that Stevens was represented by a year book. To give credance to this, a class representative was elected to the Board. Thus both the. Junior Class and the entire Institute were having thrust upon them all unpaid debts which might be contracted by the organ and toy of seven private societies ; and furthermore the fraternities in misrepresenting Link3 were, by receiving money from the various classes in the Institute who voted to contribute part of the class dues to what they believed to be a class publication, re-

ceiving that money under false pretences. That debts were left by past L i d s is known positively, and yet we are told the fraternities pay all deficits. These deficits have not come to light sooner because the managers were not called upon to make any public statement to the class of the financial standing of Link.

I t was also shown that Link did not always fall behind, and since the fraternities contributed nothing except to balance accounts, all seven, together, were sometimes called on for less than $50.

The result of this meeting was that since matters had at last been, shown up in their true light, either the fraternities must publish their book as a fraternity-book or the class must publish it as a class-book, this latter the fraternities would not hear of.

A compromise was, therefore, suggested by Pres. Humphreys : that the board consist of an equal number of fraternity and nonfraternity men, and that the class be prepared to pay half the deficit in case there be any. A canvass of the neutrals brought enough signatures to guarantee $250Ăƒâ€˜a amount greater than any past deficit.

A committee was appointed to try and arrange a compromise, but it failed to attain its object, as the fraternities would not recede from their original proposition. The committee, which represented the neutrals, present this in the hope that it will tend to clear up matters.

The Engineering Society.

The first meeting in the present college year of the Engineering Society was held on October 11th. Pres. Humphreys addressed the Society on the subject of "Systematizing."

He showed how necessary system is for success and pointed out the great importance of using system-cleared of red tape-in conducting the affairs of the Society.

The President did not, however, confine himself to general remarks but enlarged upon the original scope of his subject and made many valuable suggestions relative to the carrying on of meetings. Although he urged the educational value of the Society he emphasized the fact that any work done by its members should not lay an extra burden on their regular roster work but rather should run in branching, broadening lines and so, by its very remoteness from the routine work, be more a recreation and less a task. One of the aims of the Engineering Society, Pres. Humphreys said, should be to train its members to do use-

Prof. Kroeh-represented Stevens Institute at the recent inauguration of Henry Sturgis Drinker as president of Lehigh University. Pres. Drinker was at one time a pupil of Prof.

Kroeh's.

The new blower for supplying forced draft to the three boilers has arrived and is being installed tipon the concrete platform, built for the purpose in the boiler room.

Work on the athletic grounds is confined to a central portion about ?00 feet wide by 400 feet long- and hopes are entertained for its completion by next spring, after which work on the track will be started.

Prof. Hummel will not return to the Institute as he had inb tended and as was announced in the first issue. He is still under the care of a physician, who forbade him" to continue teaching for the present.

John W. Dunn, President of the International Steam Pump Co., has presented the new building with two Warthington return pumps. The B. P. Sturtevant Co. donated three centrifugal fans ; the Howard & Morse Co. contributed,an exhaust fan, while the American Radiator Co. furnished the building with all i radiators.

use in the assay room, a complete outfit consisting of blowers, assay furnaces, crucible furnaces, ore grinders, pulverizers, etc. All furnaces are gas-fired and all power is electrical. Mr. Reichhelm assures Dr. Stillman that it is the latest and'most complete apparatus for assaying in the market. A similar outfit is being installed at Columbia.

College Customs.

For some time i t has been felt that there should be more traditions at Stevens, more class distinction, and more importance attatched to such customs as now exist. The recent gift of twenty-seven dollars from the former S m ~ z ' B o a r dto the Senior class to use for the support of college customs, and the article by served Davis '06 on Traditions in the last issue of THESTOTB to bring this matter more to the front.

On Wednesday, October 11th. a committee of two from each of the three upper classes met to discuss the advisability of introducing new customs. Various plans were talked over and it was decided to report to the classes represented and ask power to draw up and post certain rules. This having been granted and the classes having pledged their support, posters were ordered printed and the Sophomore members of the joint committee given the privilege of circulating them. The rules agreed upon are to go into effect on November Ist, and are as follows : Freshmen, while in Hoboken, shall wear black caps with green buttons, the latter to be no smaller than a penny.

Freshmen shall not sit on the front steps of the main Institute building.

Freshmen shall not smoke within one block of the Institute unless they win two of the three canes.

It is hoped that these regulations will be accepted in true college spirit. They were drawn up with the honest intention of improving college life here at Stevens and are similar to customs in vogue at many other colleges and universities.

Freshmen, .do not judge hastily as to the merits of this step; give it a fair trial.

Sophomores, remember while enforcing these rules that the spirit contained in them is the principal thing, and that so long as you stick to that and do not go to extremes, you will have the hearty support of all upper-classn~en. Repeaters who have been members of another class for at ,least a term should not, of course. besubject to these rules.

Came Sprees, Tug-of-war, Tie-up and Senior Frolic.

According- to prehistoric tradition a t Stevens, one afternoon each fall is set apart for the Freshmen and Sophomores to settle their differences and at which time all Seniors are supposed to cast care aside, robe themselves in original and fantastic attire and once more be children.

This year's program as arranged by the joint committee from the Junior and Senior classes calls for a parade of the entire student body headed by the Seniors in fancy dress. Each class is requested to carry a class banner and the lower classes to provide bands. After arriving at the Cricket Grounds the-classes will form aronnd a roped-off square and the light, middle and heavyweight Cane Sprees will be held in the order named. The Tug-of-war comes next, in which twenty men from each of the lower classes take part. Since these classes are so evenly matched this year, '09 having but twenty-two more men than '08, the Tie-Up promises to be the best seen at Stevens for several years. - After the finish of the Tie-Up, the Seniors will get together, play leap-frog, puss-in-the-corner, tag, etc., and then form in line and march to a fancy dress Senior Supper, Wednesday, November 8th, has been selected for these events. There are no examinations on that day and all classes will be given a half holiday. Therefore, no excuse for not having every man on hand from the start of the parade at 2 o'clock np to the end of the last event.

Tennis.

Some delay in the doubles tournament was caused by the Rag-Baby Rush and rain on the two following days. The matches played up to last Monday were: Ridgway and Watts vs. Burling and Cudlipp-7-5, 6-4.

Dunbar and Rossig- vs. Demarest and Wooley-4-6, 6-1,6-3.

Berrian and Butler vs. Murray and Scofield-6-1, 6-1.

Ifemcke and Morris vs. Mosier and Riesenberger-6-1, 4-6, 8-6.

Gaffney and Hamilton vs. Harlow and Stewart-8-6, 2-6, 6-1.

The Tennis team will play The Brooklyn Pol /technic Institute's team on Saturday, the 28th inst. The courts have been used constantly on every fine day for several weeks.

Senior Notes.

The Senior class has this year a roster quite distinct from that of the other classes. This is right in line with the much discussed movement for increased class distinction.

The Seniors' first term will end about the middle of December, examinations taking place before Christmas. Thesis work is scheduled to begin immediately after the holidays, but of course, can be begun a t any time after the examinations, the time allotted to it being that intervening between Dec. 20th and February 27th. The big inspection trip will, however, occupy the last eight or nine days of this period. Last year '05 had to attend lectures twice a week during the thesis term. This scheme has this year been improved upon in that the fellows are required to attend the special lectures but once a week (on Mondays) and at the same time report the progress of their work. The Seniors' second term will be the same as that of the other classes, the June examinations being the "windup. " The Senior class met on Oct. l7th, Vice-president Gaffney presiding. Upon the suggestion of former treasurer Weber, an auditing committee was appointed to examine his books, Murray, Davey and Niles being selected to serve. J. J. Burling submitted the report of the committee on College Custon~s,and also that of the Cane Spree committee. H e also informed the Class of the arrangements made for the fancy-dress dinner following the sprees. The new College Customs was the main subject of discussion. With the exception of slight changes the report of the committee was accepted as read.

To the Editor of The Stute: DEAR SIR-In your number of October 13th, I find the statement that the true value of a kiss is, ''Two divided by nothins," with a note of advice to the Freshmen. Might I respectfully suggest that the Seniors solve the value which I have frequently heard quoted, as " ~ o t h i n gdivided by two." ' 'AN OUTSIDER."

T H E BLOOMFIELD H I G H SCHOOL GAME. On Thursday, October 13th, the Football Team met defeat at the hands of Bloomfield.High School. This was a very sad defeat, as the touchdown which lost the game was made in the last two or three seconds of play. The home team played harder and gained more ground than Bloomfield, but was defeated by a trick play around our right end. T h e following was the Stevens School line-up: Right End, Jones: Right 'Tackle, Hinckley (Haddock); Right Guard, Leahy; Centre, E. Braine; Left Guard, Leothrop; Left Tackle, Sturgis; Left End, Hartranft (Pritchard); Quarter, Haynes; Right Half, Kelly (White); Left Half, Bay; Fullback, Leonhard.

A t a meeting of the Senior Class, on October 19th, the following Class officers were elected: President, E. Welsh; VicePresident, R. S. Broas; Treasurer, S. Haddock; Secretary, P. E. Wiske; Chairman of the Committee on Class Hats, A. T.Kelley Chairman of the Class-pin Committee, E. Braine; Chairman of Senior Dance Committee, Norman Coster.

On Wednesday the School Football Team was defeated by the strong Newark Academy Team by the score of 29-0. The best playing for the School was done by Leonhard and Bostwick, the former making a twenty-yard run which almost netted a touchdown. The Stevens School line-up follows: Right End, Bostwick; Right Tackle, Haddock; Right Guard, Smith (Leothrop); Centre, Braine; Left Guard, Leaby (Hinckley ); Left Tackle, Sturgis; Left End, Hartranft (Jones); Quarter, Haynes; Left Half, Leonhard (Bay); Full Back, Howard (White); Right Half, Kelley.

The School Football Team was again defeated last Saturday, this time by Webb Academy. At one time Stevens had the ball on Webb's 2-yard line but was held for downs, and twice Webb had the ball on our 2-yard line, but they lost i t both times on downs. Taking into consideration the fact that Webb outweighed the School team, our fellows made a very good showing. The following was the line-up: Right End, Bostwick; Right Tackle, Leahy; Right Guard, Smith; Center, Hinckley; Left Guard, Leothrop; Left Tackle, Sturgis; Left End, Jones; Quarter, Haynes; Right Half, Kelly; Left Half, Bay; Fullback, Howard.
