In regard to Mr. Wetzler's I.tter, I happ.n to 'be I commuter, Although ,j do not r.ly· h••vlly on Tech'a 80clal ev.nta, I do manage to athind many of th.m, '
In regard to Mr. Miller's l.tter,1 w.S(I't cllllng peopl.who bre.k their aS88S to keep this place running, (lllrds, but the rest 01 the studen( body, who don't give a damn, nerds. It Is' the same students who do evetythlng. Also, If we admlttc) ou reefves that apathy Is here to stay, we're defeated before we even start. Following this line of reasoning, why bother r.lsing the activities fee, eliminate It and let the pl.ce rot. Upon reading Bill Miller's letter, It seemed to me that he was upset about stUdent ap.thy: If 1were stuffing m.llboxes with STUTES, .nd th.n later IIW th.m In the garb.ge, I would feal Ilk. I w.s banging my h••d .galnst the wsll.
Bill Wetzler leels that .nyone who relies on T,ch's socl.' functions Is IIghtl'ng a losing b.ttle. Obviously hs's dissatlslled, He also feels that frat men and commuters are dissatisfied, since thsy provide I their own entsrtalnment.
Psrhaps the 'answer to the problem Is cont.lnsd In a statement msde by Mike Antlerl concerning the choice 01 Dick Clark as this semesters lecturer lt Is very dlfllcult to gst someone who Is the top In hi. or her field for a sum of mon.y equal to or (Oont, on pg. 7, col. 4)

(ConI. from pg., 6, col. 5) less than that which Dlok Olsrk \\(BS paid." Maybe the activities fea 'should be doubled or tripled, Perhaps having betler events would cajole the stUdents Into betler attendanoe, , Sincerely,
John Tarabocchla '78The latter would mandate that ,no concern whatsoever Is shown In regard to staying In the show, whlla the aotors obViously cared' enough for their -.gos to make the ,effort to Withdraw. Likewise, displaying the menage "Texux" for public enlightenment would saem to Imply thet the advertiser doe. cire; he probably tru Iy thinks that Stevans Tech doe. SUCk, In which case he should get the hell out, but that Is, of course, beside the point of this letter, point being on your head, Mr. Doclmo.
To close, I quote Bill Miller: "There are •.. many students on this campus who break their assas every week , and neve,r get eny recognition for their work," Thanks for that statement, Bill; even more students than you refer to deeeNe better than being termed "Nerds" and "Weirdos."
Let us now have a moment of silence for "Foot-In-Mouth" Disease.

(P.S. To John T.; ISlIlIm to rllcall a tllsl on Iha Wednesday In quesl/on. Am I In error? My profassor verifies thaI I. wasn't high that dar... J.H,)
Dear Editor, , prompt ,response to Bill Miller's letter of the 4th, IlNlsh to sugge.t to Mr, Miller: Mr. Tarabocchla, and Mr, Doclmo (01 "Flue Gas" fame In the same lsaue as Bill's letter) that apatny does not have as strong a hold on Tech as they believe. In many cases, apathy's antlthesll Is neatly b'u rled beneath megicredlts of courses, and, In llases such as mine, 10 or more hours 01 e)(t,ra-eurricular actlvltles per 5 'day achool week Since my activities do not Include Stuco,' Honor Board, athleflcs,' I.'D.C., StUdent Review Board, or listening to "the pits of the eartr at Disco Socials (touche, Chuck Yanulevlcl), my attitude .Is genera, llzed as being phlegmatic. Since by simply 'writing this letter I effectively negate any charge of lethargy, this Is where your case falls to Dear Editor, the ground, I do care, and so do 'Now that President Rogers many others, has revealed some of the details
By the, bye, Mr. Doolmo, 01 his "Dream List," I feel It Is apathy Is ap.tly defined as lack time to point out a serious of interest, or Indlfferenoe. Pull- deficiency In the athletic Ing out of the Gong Show In- laclllties at Tech. The problem I' ,dicates laok of conviction, am referring to is simply thatlhe abundant, self·doubt, and e)(lsting pool Is too small for perhaps even ch'icken- anything besides 'horsing hearted ness, but not torpidity. around,' Not only does this hinder the activities of the Scuba Club and the lifesaving and swimming courses a number of people are taking for gym credit but it prevents the e)(lstence of a competitive swim team at Stevens.
It Is obvious that the administration has long been Ignoring this problem since nothing was done to upgrade the swimming facilities whan the fleldhouse was built. It would be a serious mistake to consider a dasign for the proposed Physloal Education bUilding (Phase II of BUilding and E)(terlor Campus Improvements) that didn't Include a new pool since the lack' of a swim team at Tech is a strong deterrent for some prospective' freshmen. I can verify this personally since as a tour guide for the Admissions Office I often found mysell apologizing for, our Inadequate swimming facilities.
Even if the Administration Is finally going to come to grips With this problem with these construction plans, It will be live to ten years before the new pool can be used. Bearing this In mind, there Is work that should be done on the existing POOl (specifically the replacement of the heating system) to make It a more viable answer to our present needs. By way of explanation, consider the fact that the pool Is hooked up to the same steam system that heats the other buildings on campus. This means that In the spring and fall When the heat Is not on and the ground Is cold, the water tempersture In the pool drops well down Into the GO's (' F). It should be unnecessary to point out that this Is not only uncomlortabla but dangerous (ConI. on pg. 8, 001. 5)
