For 70 years, IES Abroad has been a leading provider in international education and, for more than 55 years, has offered part-time internships as part of their study abroad programs. Today, IES Internships offers unpaid, guaranteed internship placements in Barcelona, Berlin, Cape Town, Dublin, London, Milan, Paris, Rome, Santiago, Shanghai, Sydney, and Vienna. In one of these 12 cities, you’ll enjoy the exhilarating challenge of real-world experience combined with professional skill building and cultural immersion. When you have completed an IES internship, you will have the work experience, professional skills training, cultural competency and confidence to make you and your résumé stand out.

Experience you need to succeed After you complete an IES Internships program, you’ll join a group of our more than 150,000 alumni. According to the IES Abroad Alumni Survey results: Nearly three quarters of our alumni secured their first job within two months of graduation. Our alumni earn an average of $6,000 more in starting salaries (compared to U.S. college graduates from the National Career Outcomes Report). 90% of our alumni continuing their education earned admission into their first- or secondchoice graduate or professional school. What we offer Full-Time Internship Placements

Well-Located & Vetted Housing

We work with you to determine your career goals and match your interests with an appropriate semester or summer internship experience. You’ll intern for eight weeks during the summer, with average hours that are typical of full-time work in your specific location.

Depending on the city, our well-located housing options include apartments, homestays, and/or residence halls that have been vetted by IES Abroad staff to make sure they meet our rigorous health and safety standards. Internship and seminar locations are taken into consideration when assigning housing placements.

Predeparture Advising Even before you apply to an IES Internships program, you’ll have a dedicated representative to reach out to. As soon as you choose a location and start your internship application, an advisor who is specific to your program location will walk you through the application and predeparture process.

Internship Coordination & On-Site Orientation Well before you arrive on-site, you’ll work with IES Internship Coordinators who live and work in your chosen location. They know the cities, internship opportunities, and employers, and will guide you through the placement process. When you arrive in your city of choice, you’ll be greeted by IES Internships staff, meet your Internship Coordinator in person, and participate in orientation. Our orientation program prepares you for and introduces you to the city, professional and cultural expectations, commuting, currency, safety, and how to get the most from your experience.

World-Class Academics & Faculty When participating in an IES Internships summer program, you can enroll in a 3or 6-credit internship seminar. In some locations, you may also have the option to enroll in a 3-credit foreign language course during the summer. Whichever course option(s) you choose, know that all courses are taught by local IES Abroad faculty—leaders in their fields who help interns discover unexpected ways of learning both in and outside the classroom.

Health & Safety The safety of IES interns is our highest priority. Our on-site staff, as well as our Chicago-based Dean of Students office, is well-trained and knowledgeable about our extensive health and safety procedures and protocols. All IES interns attending programs are required to use international health insurance through IES Abroad (included in the program cost).

IES Abroad Dublin Center The Dublin Center is a place for interns to connect with staff, attend the seminar, and utilize Center spaces. Located just a short walk from St. Stephen’s Green; features include high-speed Internet, a student lounge, classrooms, a library, and IES Abroad staff offices.

Housing & Meals Live in a private student residence with your own bedroom and bathroom, but shared living space with up to four other IES Abroad students, possibly mixed in gender (you may request otherwise on your housing form). All housing is completely furnished and features fully equipped kitchens and WiFi. No meals are provided.

Featured Placements BUSINESS & TECHNOLOGY Intern worked with a multinational energy supply company, specifically on the operations upkeep of a functioning wind farm, research on the entirety of Ireland’s active solar projects, and plans for various future renewable energy enterprises. The intern also toured a renewable energy power plant and attended an industry conference.

MARKETING & SOCIAL MEDIA

Allison F. English Major | University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Interned with a national daily newspaper, conducting interviews, performing investigative research for stories, and writing and bylining her own articles, including one that was featured on the front page of the paper.

Intern worked with a social media platform that unites women through different activities and interest groups, fostering friendships and professional connections. As a marketing intern, they researched new markets for U.S. expansion and created food, shopping, and local activity-related blog content for each proposed city, as well as corresponding social media templates.

She served in a PR capacity to handle international inquiries, aided in the design process for upcoming product lines, helped develop the company’s website, and contributed to U.S. and UK customer service processes.

FASHION MARKETING Max L. Real Estate & Finance Major | The George Washington University Interned with a luxury menswear accessories company, drafting the weekly customer newsletter, writing blog posts, and creating video content. Max also played a role in inventory decisions like which items to restock, which to send to e-commerce retailers, and which new designs to produce.

BUSINESS & CONSULTING Intern worked with a consulting firm that helps Italian businesses expand into the United States, searching for potential U.S. clients and producers and researching the American market to find the best option(s) for a variety of the firm’s projects. They also drafted a business plan for a designated client and attended local trade shows and conferences during Milan Design Week.

MARKETING & SOCIAL MEDIA Intern worked with a not-for-profit startup that develops leadership programs for Italian schoolchildren.
