There’s a twist to the fall 2013 fashion and it’s coming in full force. Fall’s clothing trends are anything but the ordinary turtlenecks, dull sweaters and neutral pieces. The best part is they can mold your college wardrobe. College is a fast-paced life and there’s hardly any time to put an outfit together, let alone apply a swipe of mascara to your eyes. College is filled with long study sessions, difficult classes and a box of Cane’s chicken fingers. But what about when you receive your diploma, officially enter the real world and are lost in a sea of Southern Miss T-shirts and tennis shoes? Suddenly, you aren’t the only one who is scared for a real job. Your wardrobe is too. This is why you need to start now. This edition has made it easy for you to look stylish on campus every day. Savor the looks that fit your personal style and that will make you the ultimate street-style fashionista. Trends that hit the fall 2013 runways are leopard prints, fur vests, boho fringe and metallics. You also cannot forget the
classic holiday looks and glamorous New Year’s ensembles. You can find these pieces in the Hattiesburg boutiques including Eve Marie’s, Apricot Lane and The Edge. Petal and Laurel boutiques also offer these trendy items at Sassy Girl, The Sweet Olive, Natalie & Co. and Misty’s. These looks are ready-to-wear for college women whether you are walking to class, attending a play or going out with your best friends. Putting together interesting outfits that reflect your individuality will make you want to embrace fashion. Now when finals week arrives, you’ll have a better fashion insight and a few new pieces in your wardrobe to help melt the stress away. Let retail therapy be your saving grace. Other than wishing for a New Year’s Eve midnight kiss, wish for fashion inspiration. Learn to love your clothes. Start the year off right with a brand new pair of pumps and sassy metallic pants. Enhance your look and turn it into something fabulous. The 2013 fall trends are about exploring new ways to dress your best with fun and comfortable pieces. So brace yourself, you’re going to adore this season’s picks. Turn the page to be inspired.

Cozy knits Snuggle up with these warm sweaters as the days get colder and the nights get longer. Choose a bright knit and pair it with colored jeans or a leather skirt. Plum and olive jeans are a perfect pairing with patterned cardigans. Throw on accessories to complete the look. These sweaters will brighen your day until the flowers bloom again.

Seventies fringe pieces are making a fresh return and it’s a fabulous piece to pair with blazers or chambray button downs. It’s an easy piece to throw on with a maxi skirt with minimal accessories. Not mention the studded combat boots are a hot commodity that’s in style every year. A new trend is pairing a tulle lace slip that peaks under a hi-low dress. The bohemian look is feminine and comfortable for the winter months.

Wild things
fall fashion
Animal prints bring your style to another level. For the leopard lovers, wear a slouchy cardigan or printed blouse. To tone down your look, add a wild touch by wearing a leopard scarf with a blazer for a preppier look.

Fur Faze The fur trend will bring out your inner animal and convery your edgy side. You’ll like taking risks in this great piece paired with a leather dress or a frilly romper. Prints and textures require minimal accessories, so let the fur speak for itself.

Metallics
Rose and gold metals are making a flashy comeback. Mick Jagger would be impressed by the metallic pants and sleeve-sequined top paired with the black cutout wedges. Metallic pieces can always be toned down by pairing them with all black for a more professional look.

1. Tall women who
wear heels
Look, I understand it’s not your fault that you’re tall, and what girl doesn’t want to accessorize their outfit with those flashy heels that they’ve dying to pull out of the bottom of their closet? But when you’re 5-foot-10-inch plus, you’re emasculating your man enough already. Don’t make it worse on him.
2. Crazy leggings
Every woman loves wearing leggings, but some of the leggings women wear these days is outrageous. I was walking to class the other day and this girl was wearing leopard leggings. Not leopard print leggings, but legit, full fierce leopards covered the entirety of the leggings. Outrageous leggings just aren’t cute at all.
3. Colored pants
Maybe I’m just old-fashioned, but a woman in simple blue jeans is the most attractive. I may be in the minority here, but pants that are red, blue and purple are just weird.
4. Oversized shirts
Growing up, it seemed as though women only wore shirts three times their size as sleep attire. Now, half of the women I see in class are wearing these shirts. I understand they’re comfortable, and most people like to be comfortable when going to class, but please don’t wear your night gown shirts to class. It’s not cute.
5. Chacos
Chacos have to be the worst fashion idea ever. When I see someone wearing them, I just picture my dad wearing Velcrostrapped sandals in the 90s. How on earth chacos became fashionable is beyond me. They are simply hideous. Hideous isn’t even a strong enough word to describe how ugly they truly are.

Midnight Sparkle New Year’s Eve is the best time to break out the most outrageous sequin pieces in your wardrobe. Look for a sequin cardigan with a classic LBD or go crazy in a funky aztec sequin mini. The memories become endless when you spend the night dancing away in a Gatsyinspired fringe dress with a leather clutch to hold your night-out essentials. Clink the glasses and let your hair down for the year’s final countdown.
“Over the years I have learned that what is important in a dress is the woman who is wearing it.” — Yves Saint-Laurent

Editor’s trend pick: blush tones Blush tones were hot on the runways this season. Whether it was a feminine blazer or a statement coat, this color made fall still feel like spring. This is great piece to pull out of your spring /summer wardrobe. When you pair this blazer with silky jogger pants, another popular trend, you get a chic street-style look that will turn heads.
“Today, fashion is really about sensuality—how a woman feels on the inside. In the ’80s women used suits with exaggerated shoulders and waists to make a strong impression. Women are now more comfortable with themselves and their bodies—they no longer feel the need to hide behind their clothes.” — Donna Karan

Designer runway trends Mercey Livingston

Mercedes-Benz Fall Fashion Week brought timeless basics like fur and blush and bold looks including leopard, leather and metallic turned heads and grabbed attention at shows. Leopard is a timeless trend that usually creeps up in some form of accessory or accent each season. But this fall is all about full-on leopard print. This trend was seen all over the fall runways at Diane von Furstenberg, DKNY and Giambattista Valli. One of the key pieces at DVF was a leopard print wrap dress with a deep key-hole neckline. DVF also showed a leopard print coat and leopard print jump suit. Liquid Metallics dominated the runway at fall fashion week. From leggings, pants, dresses, makeup to shoes and accessoriesmetallics are everywhere. Emilio Pucci’s gold metallic mini-dress fully accented with mesh and jewels was the ultimate show of the new trend for fall. Tory Burch’s fall collection also featured a metallic wrap bracelet. Metallic heels were seen on the runway at Gucci. And, it looks like the jumpsuit is back in for fall- Balmain’s liquid gold metallic jumpsuit practically screamed that metallic. Fur is not considered a new trend, but this year fur was seen all over the runways at fashion week. Herve Leger is best known for the label’s signature body-con bandage dresses, but at the Herve Leger by Max Azria show one of the signature looks was a looser fitted, sequined white dress with a casual white hooded sweatshirt and a dramatic fur hood. One of Alexander Wang’s
models strutted the runway in a head-to-toe fur ensemble. Although head-to-toe fur sounds questionably tacky, the look is surprisingly chic and classy. The model wore a deep v-neck velour vest and a matching black fur wrap with a below-theknee grey fur skirt. Leather is back in a big way this season. Leather was seen in tops, skirts, dresses and not surprisingly in jackets. Leather skirts in all styles were seen on the runways this year. Models at Zero + Maria Cornejo wore red leather pencil skirts and matching red leather booties. Tess Giberson showed a unique structured bronze metallic leather shift dress. Charlotte Ronson took a slight twist on the shift structure with a plum colored leather halter dress. Prabal Gurung’s edgy full
leather ensemble included a longsleeve black leather dress with elbow length leather gloves. Blush, especially for evening wear, is huge this fall. Armani, Dior, Chanel and Valentino all showed demure gowns in shades of blush but with extravagant detailing. Shades ranged from nude to pale pink. Zuhar Murad’s evening gown is the epitome of feminine and whimsical. The pale gown featured a flowy design, with mesh detailing, along with a high collar and delicate cap sleeves and intricate lace. Elie Saab Fall Couture showed a similar dress that was almost grey, with a tinge of blush. The sheer dress was accented with ornate silver lace detailing and a belt.
