Investing in Our Future Leaders Youth volunteers and leaders have always played an important role in the success of The Storehouse. Here are three ways we invested in our future leaders in 2022:

SEASONAL & FEDERAL WORK-STUDY TEAM MEMBERS As our neighbors’ needs for food grew, the Seven Loaves team relied on seasonal support to meet the increased demand. In the summer, Abby Santibanez (freshman, Collin College), Paul Yates (junior, Indiana University) and Noah Ziegelbein (freshman, Texas A&M University) worked with the pantry team to expand operations in order to provide more nutritious meals each week.

Growing Our Programs We witnessed exponential growth across our three programs in 2022 in addition to developing and launching our fourth and newest program. Here’s how we grew our programs:

SEVEN LOAVES FOOD PANTRY In 2021, the average number of families served per food distribution was 421 — a number that rose to 575 in 2022.

Between June and December, we witnessed a sustained increase in neighbors served with an average of 663 families per distribution. This translates to over 1,300 families served weekly at our food pantry during the last half of year.

The Seven Loaves team worked tirelessly to fine-tune operations throughout 2022, scaling each aspect of the pantry to meet our neighbors’ needs. Many neighbors arrive at our pantry in work attire, a testament to how inflation is deeply affecting working families who do not earn a living wage.

Growing Our Partnerships The Storehouse values collaboration, recognizing that a single organization is incapable of being “all things” to all neighbors in our community.

North Texas is home to thousands of nonprofit organizations seeking to support individuals and families with a wide variety of needs.

Strategic partnerships with nearby nonprofits provide vital resources for neighbors with needs beyond what is offered through The Storehouse’s programs.

Whenever a neighbor presents a need beyond food and clothing, the Project Hope Neighbor Care team helps connect these neighbors to other service providers for resources such as medical care, mental health care, furniture, and housing.

The Academy Education Program utilizes a hybrid model, offering several courses inhouse while also connecting neighbors with other established training and education providers.

While The Storehouse continues to maintain long-standing partnerships with organizations such as the North Texas Food Bank for food, there remains a need to forge new collaborations so that neighbors can be cared for holistically.

In 2023, The Storehouse is committed to strengthening exisiting collaborations and developing new ones to provide more resources and opportunities for our neighbors. Read about our plans for 2023 on pages 25 and 26.

Lifelong Learning Sergio Walteros was one of 41 neighbors who completed our 10-week summer English as a Second Language (ESL) course.

He received a standing ovation from his classmates and teachers at the graduation ceremony on September 10. He finished the fall semester in November and plans to continue English classes in 2023.

Transformation Sergio Walteros continues to work with the Project Hope team toward his long-term goals. Through The Academy, Sergio was able to complete a forklift and workplace safety certification course this fall. He is grateful to be back at work and hopes to grow in his career to better support his family.

“We first began supporting the Thanksgiving effort in 2013 by underwriting the cost of the turkeys,” said Heather Rapkoch, a member of the board of directors of The Storehouse. “Our family, including

The Rapkochs first learned about The Storehouse when Christopher began volunteering through St. Andrew Methodist’s Youth Group. From sorting and distributing food to working behind the scenes, Christopher was moved by the entire process and encouraged his parents to get involved.

FIVE-YEAR VISION 2021 - 2025: Our five-year vision remains to provide short-term resources for families in need while empowering our neighbors toward long-term transformation. Our goal is to help 20 percent of our neighbors out of shortterm services and into selfsustaining employment that provides a living wage.
