Nations start Ukraine pullout US, Russia lead exodus even as Biden-Putin talks aim to defuse crisis

OTH the United States and Russia have ordered the pullout of some of their diplomatic staff in Kyiv, adding to the ominous tone after Washington warned that Moscow could invade Ukraine in days.

US President Joe Biden prepared to sound out Russia’s Vladimir Putin on Saturday [Sunday, Manila time] aimed at defusing one of the gravest crises in East-West relations since the Cold War as Ukraine urged its citizens not to panic amid warnings that an all-out invasion could begin “any day.”

Putin began his Saturday afternoon by holding talks with France’s Emmanuel Macron that the French presidency said lasted 100 minutes. No details were immediately released but the French leader has spearheaded EU efforts to ease fears of a major war breaking out in eastern Europe.

SAINT Valentine’s Day may now be celebrated worldwide but traditions are often very different – and sometimes have nothing at all to do with romance. While in Europe it’s all about couples cosying up, in the United States it is as much about school children celebrating friendship while in Japan women give chocolates to their bosses. The positivity rate stood at 14.3 percent, with 36 percent of the ICU beds nationwide in use, along with32 percent of isolation beds and 29 percent of ward beds dedicated for COVID-19 patients. Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said the shift to a new normal will begin once the community quarantine level is downgraded to Alert Level 1. “Once we are already at Alert Level 1, that will be our protocol: all restrictions for establishments and public transport will be lifted,” Vergeire said.
