A LAWYER has criticized the Ombudsman’s plan to use the testimonies of the ex-bodyguards of former congressman Zaldy Co, also known as the “Maleta Boys,” to build its case against former Speaker Martin Romualdez and
other officials it will charge for involvement in the flood control project scandal. It was only last week that eight of Co's former security signed their affidavits, which the Ombudsman said were ready as early as June 20.
In an interview with dzMM, lawyer Jose “Judd” Roy III said the Office of the Ombudsman has been trying to get the group of 18 supposed ex-Marines to sign a draft affidavit on their testimonies. Next page

ENATE impeachment court Presiding Officer Sen. Francis "Chiz" Escudero on Wednesday warned both the prosecution and defense against making what amounted to closing arguments while presenting evidence in the trial of Vice President Sara Duterte. Proceedings entered their third day with the continued cross-examination of the prosecution's first witness, National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Senior Agent John Mark Calilung. The warning came after remarks made Tuesday by prosecution counsel Atty. Amando Ligutan, which Escudero described as premature and which Sen. Pia Cayetano said resembled a closing argument.
