RESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has called Congress into a special session tomorrow (Wednesday, June 17) to expedite the passage of key social protection and education measures, citing the urgent needs of families affected by recent calamities and other vulnerable sectors. The special session call came amid leadership tensions in the Upper Chamber that have disrupted proceedings in recent weeks, with competing claims to the Senate presidency by Alan Peter Cayetano and Sherwin Gatchalian. The standoff has raised concerns about delays in the passage of pending legislation and the confirmation of key government appointments, including five generals.
