RESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Friday urged Filipinos to draw lessons from history and remain united in protecting the country's freedom and sovereignty amid modernday challenges. As the country marked the 128th Anniversary of Philippine Independence, Mr. Marcos also called on Fili-
pinos to "protect truth from distortion.” "As we honor this day, we are reminded that freedom is not merely a
legacy we inherit but a responsibility we must uphold… Our history has taught us that it is only through unity that independence can be achieved," he said. "We must protect truth from distortion, harness technology wisely, and restore trust in a time increasingly marked by division and distrust. How we respond to these demands will shape the course of our nation and define what we pass on to future genera-
tions," the President said. A true leader, Mr. Marcos added, is one who puts others before himself. “True leaders are those who sacrifice their own interests for the good of the people...Let us choose the good of the nation over the interests of a few,” he added.
