ENATOR Jinggoy Estrada was arrested Monday after the Sandiganbayan special anti-graft court ordered his detention over a non-bailable plunder case linked to an alleged P573-million flood control kickback scheme. Estrada turned himself in at the Senate after a press briefing that his allies in the majority also attended, making the senator the highest-ranking government official so far arrested in the sprawling corruption scandal. The Sandiganbayan Fifth Division issued the arrest warrant after rejecting motions filed by Estrada's lawyers seeking to withhold the warrant's issuance and quash the criminal charges against him. The plunder case, docketed as SB26-CRM-0001, stemmed from allegations that Estrada received hundreds of millions of pesos in kickbacks from flood control projects.
