HE Sandiganbayan Second Division yesterday issued an arrest warrant against Senator Jinggoy Estrada in relation to graft charges filed against him over the flood control mess. Estrada immediately posted P90,000 bail Friday afternoon. “I respect the rule of law and our judicial institutions, and this is precisely why I am posting bail and personally submitting myself to the jurisdiction of the Sandiganbayan,” the senator said in a statement. “Posting bail is a legal remedy available to me under our justice system, and I intend to avail myself of every lawful means to defend myself and clear my name,” he added. The Sandiganbayan Fifth Division is handling the separate non-bailable plunder case and another count of graft against Estrada. "I am hoping for fair treatment, due process, and impartiality in the hearing of this case. I trust that in the end, justice and the truth will prevail," he said. Estrada's co-respondent, former Department of Public Works and Highways secretary Manuel Bonoan, also posted bail yesterday.

BAILED OUT. Sen. Jinggoy Estrada arrives at the Sandiganbayan to post bail after the court ordered his arrest on charges of graft filed by the Ombudsman.

SENATORS facing arrest or detention could still take part in the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte through court-approved physical attendance at the Senate rather than online participation or remote voting, Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson said Friday. Lacson, a member of the Senate minority, insisted that “work-from-jail is not allowed” and that physical presence remains indispensable in constitutional proceedings. “One remedy is for the Impeachment Court to ask the Sandiganbayan or any court to which their cases would be assigned for leave of court,” Lacson said. “If granted, the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology or their custodians can escort them to the Senate so they may participate in the impeachment trial of the Vice President. The senator-judges will be physically present,” he added.

THE camp of Leyte Rep. Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez on Friday rejected allegations linking him as the “mastermind” behind the alleged flood control scheme, stressing that the national

budget process is collegial and involves multiple branches of government. Lawyer Elaine Atienza, spokesperson for former Speaker Romualdez, disputed claims that the former Speaker had “functional control” over the Next page budget process.

Marcos: Expect more appointments of losing candidates By Charles Dantes PRESIDENT Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. on Friday dropped broad hints that more appointments of losing candidates in the 2025 elections could be expected in the coming days following the expiration of the one-year constitutional ban on their appointment to government posts.
