HE May 13 shooting incident at the Senate and the escape of Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa hours later are “related,” the Philippine National Police - Criminal Investigation and Detection Group said yesterday.

“Let me just say that the two incidents -- they are related,” CIDG chief Maj. Gen. Robert Morico II said during a press conference Thursday. “But the investigation is already with the Department of Justice. I do not want to preempt the findings of the DOJ,” he said. Morico said a network of six individuals, including Senator Robin Padilla, are being investigated for possible obstruction of justice raps over Dela Rosa’s escape.

“That (escape) was not incidental. It is not a mere hitch ride. It was a well-planned, well-coordinated escape because there was even a backup vehicle… The backup is for security and to ensure the main vehicle is able to leave,” the CIDG chief added. GLOBAL average temperatures are likely to continue at or near record levels this year and for the next four years afterwards, the United Nations warned Thursday. The 11 hottest individual years ever recorded all happened from 2015 onwards and the UN’s weather and climate agency said the trend was set to continue, with a new hottest-ever year “likely” before 2031.
