One dead, 23 trapped as building collapses BFP confirms Malaysian fatality in Angeles; 26 rescued

ESCUERS recovered the body of a Malaysian person with disability from a damaged hotel near the site of a nine-story building in Angeles City, Pampanga that collapsed early Sunday, as emergency teams continued searching for at least 23 people believed trapped beneath the rubble of the underconstruction structure.

100-200k Pinoys affected by new US immigration policy By Katrina Manubay PHILIPPINE Ambassador to the United States Jose Manuel Romualdez yesterday said between 100,000 and 200,000 Filipinos could be affected by the new Immigration policy regarding green card applications for foreign nationals already in the US. In a message to the Manila Standard, Romualdez explained that the new rule is designed to reduce the burden on permanent residency (PR) applicants in the US. He said the new US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) policy is intended to simplify processing by transferring Green Card applications to consular services abroad. “According to information we received, the new rule implemented by USCIS will unburden the processing of PR applicants in the United States and spread it to the consular services of US embassies where the applicants come from,” he said. Officials said at least 26 people had been rescued from the collapsed building and nearby structures, while 24 injured victims had been brought to hospitals for treatment. Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) officer-in-charge Rico Kwan Tiu said the victim’s remains were retrieved from the second floor of the Orsu Hotel in Barangay Balibago, which was heavily damaged when the nearby building collapsed at around 3 a.m.
