PBBM STRESSES ECONOMIC CHA-CHA SUPPORT; SPEAKER LAUDS MOVE PRESIDENT Marcos has thrown his full support behind the ongoing efforts to amend the 1987 Constitution, underscoring the move as crucial for the nation's future development and prosperity. Speaking to lawmakers, government officials, and members of the Philippine Constitution Association, President Marcos outlined his vision for a reinvigorated Philippines, one that can better navigate the challenges of the 21st century through essential constitutional reforms.
“Our country’s economic well-being is a distinctly important concern. Many sectors of our society, particularly business, have pointed to certain economic provisions in the Constitution that inhibit our growth momentum,” Mr. Marcos said. The President emphasized that the current Constitution, while having served the country well for over three decades, contains provisions that now pose limitations to economic growth, foreign investment, and governance efficiency. Stop call for Mindanao secession, says Marcos
Rody-backed move ‘doomed to fail, a constitutional travesty’ By Charles Dantes and Darwin Amojelar
P
RESIDENT Marcos on Thursday slammed calls for Mindanao to separate from the country, saying such a move is "doomed to fail."
During his keynote speech during the commemoration of Constitution Day, Mr. Marcos said the call for Mindanao to secede from the rest of the country was a "constitutional travesty." "The new call for a separate Mindanao is doomed to fail for it is anchored on a false premise not to mention a sheer constitutional travesty," he said.
"The current leadership of BARMM (Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao) itself has repudiated this preposterous proposal," he added. Former President Rodrigo Duterte earlier called for a separate and independent Mindanao republic amid calls to amend the 1987 Constitution. Next page

Plebiscite, polls can go together in ‘25—Angara SENATOR Sonny Angara said Thursday that the plebiscite on proposed changes in the 1987 Constitution can be held simultaneously with the 2025 midterm elections. "I'm not sure about the legal basis of (Commission on Elections) Chairman (George) Garcia for saying that,” Angara said during the Kapihan sa Senado. Angara said the Supreme Court ruled in the 1981 Occena vs. Comelec case that a plebiscite on constitutional amendments can be held along with a regular election. He also said the “practical deadline’” for passing Resolution of Both Houses 6 (RBH6), which the Senate is tackling, would be in October—in time for the filing of candidacies for next year’s polls—although he pointed out it could be earlier. Angara, who chairs the Senate hearings on RBH6, said the October deadline would allow the Comelec to include the question on the proposed constitutional amendment in the ballot. Next page
