By Charles Dantes

By Maricel V. Cruz SPEAKER Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez on Friday pledged support for local manufacturers of modern jeepneys, reiterating their priority status within the Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP), which is now subject to a thorough review. “Our priority will be Philippinemade as this will bring outPhilippine jobs and all other benefits," Romualdez said during adialogue conducted by the leaders of the House of Representatives with local jeepney manufacturers in Makati City on Friday. While he underscored the importance of foreign investments, he said common sense dictates that the government should always patronize reliable, durable, safe, and inexpensive locallymade PUVs.

PRESIDENT Marcos on Friday ordered the Department of Energy and Energy Regulatory Commission to study the possibility of allowing third parties to construct transmission projects. He also called on the country’s key energy players to make sure there will be “reliable power at all times.” Mr. Marcos made the call during the historic switch-on of the Mindanao-Visayas Interconnection Project (MVIP), as he hoped that there would be no repeat of the massive blackout that hit Western Visayas earlier this month. This marked the first time that the essential power grids were physically connected.
