Taguig City pays tribute to Filipinas

THE Taguig City government paid tribute to the Philippine Women’s National Football Team after its fruitful campaign in the recent FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Mayor Laarni Cayetano said the local government initiated the motorcade and meet-and-greet events to honor the remarkable achievements and determination of Filipinas.

“This year marks many significant milestones for Filipinas, the Philippines women’s national football team, as they made their debut on FIFA Women’s World Cup. When Sarina Bolden scored a header goal on July 25, 2023 vs New Zealand, Filipinas forever etched their name on HERstory. It secured the country’s first goal and first win on the prestigious World Cup,” said Cayetano.

“We are one with the entire country in celebrating this remarkable feat. We are beyond proud of their achievements and are looking forward to what’s in store in the future for these trailblazers in women’s sports,” she added.

Amidst the exuberant cheers and resounding applause of football enthusiasts and supporters, the motorcade went around BGC and made its way to High Street and Uptown.

The athletes graciously shared their team jerseys with people waiting for them during their stroll through the streets.

Culminating at the Ayala Malls Market!Market! Central Plaza, Filipinas were welcomed by Mayor Cayetano, Vice Mayor Arvin Alit, and members of the City Council before the short program and press conference.

Filipinas Team Defender, Sofia Harrison, radiated inspiration as she shared an advice for aspiring young players: “Keep dreaming. Keep believing. Trust the process and trust God. And most importantly, have fun with it.” name for himself.

Eldrew recently hogged the spotlight when he dominated the gymnastics’ competition with a six-gold medal haul in the recent Palarong Pambansa in Marikina City.

But there’s also one Yulo gymnast, who could have been a big hit in the Palaro, a yearly sports competition for elementary and high school students, organized the Department of

Education—Elaiza.

Gymnastics Association of the Philippines president Cynthia Carrion said Yulo and another girl gymnast in Tshelzy Mey Maayo are currently in the US for a month-long training.

Carrion said Alpha Gymnastics of the Philippines sponsored the US trip of the two young prospects to study and train in one of the best gymnastics’ schools for rhythmic events.

Elaiza’s most colorful stint outside of the country was in the 2022 JRC Artistic Gymnastics Stars Championships in Bangkok, Thailand, where she finished with four gold medals. She dominated the individual all-around, vault, uneven bars, and floor exercise.

The Braves and Triple Giga, champion of Leg 3, are battling for the no. 1 seed as of press time heading to the knockout stage set on Tuesday.

Also advancing to the next round were Wilcon Depot and Barangay Ginebra, which both secured two victories in the opening day of pool play.

Wilcon turned back Pioneer (18-11) and Meralco (19-15) to take the top spot in Pool B.

The Kings, back-to-back champions in Legs 1 and 2, on the other hand, downed San Miguel (21-12), and Terrafirma (2115) for the no. 1 slot in Pool C.

Four quarterfinal berths are still being contested by Meralco, Purefoods, and Pioneer in Pool B, and Northport, Terrafirma, and San Miguel in Pool C. Meralco, Purefoods, Northport, and Terrafirma all sport identical records of 1-1, while San Miguel and Pioneer, runner-up finisher to Cavitex in Leg 5 last week, are in danger of missing the cut with their 0-2 slates.

Only the top eight teams will make it to the quarterfinals of the final leg this conference prior to the Season 3 grand finale set August 13 at the Ayala Malls Market! Market!

Leg 6 champion is set to receive P100,000, runner-up P50,000, and third placer P30,000.
