Poe to gov’t: Speed up SIM registration
SEN. Grace Poe said the government and telcos must go all out to register SIM users as the July 25 registration deadline nears. Poe said she believes registration of SIM will significantly help free the public from the perils of fraud. The chair of the Senate Committee on Public Services also cited the exploitations and mobile scams that continue to proliferate.
“As we pursue our digitalization goals such as in payments and other transactions, it is also vital that communication comes from a legitimate source rather than an unregistered SIM,” Poe said. Concerned agencies must not let their guard down against scammers and fraudsters even as over 100 million SIM users have already enlisted. She pointed out the challenges besetting the registration should be addressed, especially concerning SIM users from far-flung communities, the elderly and PWDs so that no one is left behind.

French Navy vessel arrives in Manila
THE French Navy destroyer Lorraine arrived on Friday in Manila for a port visit and series of activities intended at strengthening the military alliance between France and the Philippines. In a statement released by the French Embassy in Manila, the French warship docked at the port of Manila around 9 a.m. on Friday.
The embassy said the visit of the French Navy destroyer was intended to “contribute to regional security by projecting assets from those islands in the region or coming from Europe.” It came at the heels of China’s continued aggression in the South China Sea and incursion into the West Philippine Sea.
Her port call coincides with the official visit of Rear Admiral Geoffroy d’Andigné, joint commander of the French Armed Forces in Asia-Pacific Zone, who will arrive in Manila on June 26. Rey E.

REP. Wilbert T. Lee of AGRI party-list group on Friday described the amount of insurance amounting to P15,000.00 that can be claimed for the death or injury of a passenger, third party, or pedestrian involved in a vehicular accident under our current laws, an “unjust” figure.
Lee said he hopes to address the problem through his House Bill (HB) 8498 which seeks to increase the amount of insurance claim for death or injury per accident to any passenger, third party or pedestrian without the necessity of proving fault or negligence from P15,000.00 to at least P1 million.
Lee said he learned about the current insurance claim amounts last April after he received a plea for assistance from the family of a traffic accident victim, a 22-year-old cum laude graduate who tragically died when she and her boyfriend figured in a vehicular accident when they were on their way home.
