By Macon Ramos Araneta
SEN. Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa has ended the Senate inquiry on the killing of Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo and eight others after getting the testimonies of 80 persons from the province.
Dela Rosa presided over five hearings conducted by the Senate Com- mittee on Public Order and Illegal Drugs which he chaired.
Dela Rosa’s committee also looked into the other political killings wherein Degamo and his political rival the Teves clan, have been implicated.
The Department of Justice (DOJ) earlier identified suspended Rep. Arnolfo Teves as the mastermind behind the murder of Degamo.
According to Dela Rosa, he will craft a report and will recommend the abolition of politicians in maintaining private armies.
The senator said he will also propose not to allow policemen and soldiers in active service to be engaged in violence.
Jinggoy: Jail term for criminals targetting e-wallets
SENATOR Jinggoy Ejercito Estrada is eyeing the imposition of a jail term against cyber criminals targeting virtual or electronic wallets and similar platforms used for digital financial services. Estrada recently filed Senate Bill No. 2171, the proposed Bank Ac - counts, Electronic Wallets, and Other Financial Accounts Regulation Act, to fully equip and empower government agencies and financial regulators to address cybercrime schemes and provide financial consumers with efficient means to resolve their complaints.
“If authorities are capable to trace those behind hacking or unauthorized transactions, scamming and other modus using the internet or mobile banking, there should be appropriate punishment of jail term and a heavy fine,” Estrada said. Macon Ramos-Araneta
