Big diesel, gasoline rollbacks next week
CONSUMERS can expect a big-time price rollback of more than P2 per liter next week to reflect the movement of prices in the world oil market.
An oil industry source said that based on the first four days of trading this week and the foreign exchange movement, diesel will likely go down by P2.60 to P2.80 per liter and gasoline by P2.10 to P2.30 per liter.
“These movements are attributed to the cut in the Official Selling Price of Arab Light Crude Oil to Asia to compete with India’s and China’s eagerness to snap up cheap Russian Crude Oil, and the heightened concern about Chinese recovery with unexpected slowdown in manufacturing activity,” DOE director for Oil Industry Management Bureau Rodela Romero said. Romero said oil prices also declined on reports of another possible US interest hike and a looming recession. Alena Mae S. Flores
Teves, sons ask DOJ to drop gun charges
SUSPENDED Negros Oriental 3rd District Rep. Arnolfo “Arnie” A. Teves Jr. and his two sons Kurt Matthew and Axel on Friday asked the Department of Justice to dismiss the criminal charges filed against them for alleged illegal possession of firearms and explosives charges.
The filing of the motions to dismiss during the hearing has paved the way for the DOJ’s panel of prosecutors to submit the cases filed by the Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group against the Teveses for resolution.
The PNP-CIDG accused Teves and his sons of violating Republic Act 10591 and RA 9516 for alleged illegal possession of firearms and explosives, respectively. The alleged firearms and explosives were seized by the PNP-CIDG during the service of a search warrant in the legislator’s house in Bayawan City last March 10. Rey E. Requejo

The President also reiterated his administration’s foreign policy that “the Philippines shall continue to be a friend to all and an enemy of none.”
In a question-and-answer session, the President responded with an outright “no” when asked if the US has asked that Filipino soldiers be deployed to Taiwan if tensions escalate.
“No. The short answer is no,” President Marcos said.
The President said the US also never asked for the sites under the Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (EDCA) to be used as staging points for any attacks against other nations. Vince Lopez tained, as determined by the PCGG.
It also cited similar cases against the defendants involving the same illegally obtained properties.
“In those cases, the Supreme Court had already upheld the validity of the Compromise Agreements executed by the parties involving the recovery of certain properties and the authority of the PCGG to enter such agreements,” it said.
“The nine-dash line covers just about the entire West Philippine Sea. We, on the other hand, have established our baselines which have been recognized and accredited by UNCLOS and therefore there is that conflict and so what happens now especially when it comes to exploration in -- for energy -- for our energy needs are which law will apply because we say this is part of Philippine territory and therefore Philippine law should apply,” Mr. Marcos said.
