In a press release posted on its official website on December 9, 2022, the US Treasury Department listed Quiboloy as among those sanctioned, along with other personalities and entities from North Korea, El Salvador, Guatemala, Guinea, Iran, Mali, Russia, and China.

The announcement of the sanctions

against Quiboloy and others coincided with the world’s celebration of the Human Rights Day and International AntiCorruption Day.

The US agency implicated Quiboloy to alleged serious human rights abuses, even as it claimed an alleged “pattern of systemic and pervasive rape of girls as

young as 11 years old, as well as other physical abuse.”

Quiboloy was indicted in November 2021 and placed on FBI’s most wanted list in February this year for the following charges: conspiracy to engage in sex

Group says not enough done vs. agri smuggling

THE government is not doing enough to stem the smuggling of agricultural products in the country, as authorities confiscated only 10 percent of the smuggled onions entering the market, the Samahang Industriya ng Agrikultura (SINAG) said Saturday.

The Department of Agriculture (DA) and the Bureau of Customs (BOC) should be stricter in monitoring the entry of these imported agricultural products, Rosendo So, SINAG president and chairman, said in an interview on Dobol B TV.

“These smuggled onions that are confiscated are only small compared to the total smuggled onions entering the country,” So added.

Last weekend, the DA cautioned the public against purchasing onions from online platforms as these may be illegally imported into the country.

Some P3.9 million worth of allegedly smuggled white onions were recently confiscated by authorities at Divisoria market in Manila.

Trio wins Peace Prize for struggle vs. Putin invasion

OSLO —A trio representing the three nations at the center of the war in Ukraine will receive the Nobel Peace Prize on Saturday, showing no sign of giving up the fight against Vladimir Putin and his Minsk ally.

Jailed Belarusian human rights advocate Ales Bialiatski, Russian human rights organization Memorial, and Ukraine's Center for Civil Liberties (CCL) will be presented with their awards at a formal ceremony in Oslo.

While the Peace Prize may be a small balm for the laureates' souls, it has in no way weakened their resolve.

Once effective, motorists may already settle their fine in the local government unit (LGU) where they reside even if they committed the traffic violation in another area.

The new system will also standardize the traffic violation fine, putting an end to the different amounts of fines imposed by different LGUs and by the MMDA.

Drivers’ licenses will no longer be con-

fiscated as details of erring motorists will only be listed by the traffic enforcer and forwarded to the LTO.

Motorists will also be given 10 days to settle the penalty through digital wallets or payment centers registered with the LTO’s Land Transportation Management System, before it gains interest. The license will be confiscated if it has 10 unsettled violations.

Abalos: Bloody, not deadly anti-drug campaign coming

THERE would be no sacred cows in the Marcos administration’s campaign against illegal drugs, Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Benhur Abalos said Saturday, assuring a “bloody but not deadly” approach in the coming days.

“There will be bloodshed because many people will be locked up and we won’t have any sacred cows. You will be taken into custody whether you are a colleague, a police officer, or PDEA agent,” Abalos said during the Saturday News Forum in Quezon City.

Meanwhile, the proposed measure legalizing the use of medical marijuana should be carefully studied as it might be prone to abuse, the DILG said.

Abalos made the remark after a group of parents called for the passage of a law that will give them easier access to affordable cannabis products without the risk of getting jailed.

DENR-MGB awards top mining firms

THE Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), through its Mines and Geosciences Bureau, has recognized several mining companies that operate in the most socially, economically, and environmentally responsible way.

DENR Secretary Maria Antonia Yulo Loyzaga handed over the awards, including the prestigious Presidential Mineral Industry Environmental Award (PMIEA), to the honorees.

“I’d like to take this opportunity to congratulate the winners and awardees for this year, especially the recipients of the prestigious [PMIEA],” Loyzaga said in her keynote address during the 68th Annual National Mine Safety and Environment Conference held in Baguio City last month.

“We are certain that your exemplary achievements will set the trajectory, encourage replication, and raise awareness of the mining industry’s vital contributions to inclusive, resilient, and sustainable progress,” she added.

Created under Executive Order 399, series of 1997, PMIEA is conferred every year on mining companies that have exhibited exemplary performance in terms of safety and health, environmental protection and enhancement, and social development management.

This year, a total of 12 companies received the PMIEA, which was divided into three categories: surface mining operation, quarry operation, and mineral processing.

The PMIEA recipients under the surface mining operation were CTP Construction and Mining Corporation-Dahican; Eramen Minerals Inc.; FCF Minerals Corp.; Hinatuan Mining Corp.-Tagana-an; Platinum Group Metals Corp.; Taganito Mining Corp.; and TVI Resource Development (Phils.) Inc.-Balabag Gold-Silver Project.

For quarry operation, the awardees were Republic Cement Mindanao Inc., Republic Cement & Building Materials Inc.-Batangas, and Republic Cement & Building Materials Inc.-Teresa. Coral Bay Nickel Corp. and Mindanao Mineral Processing and Refining Corp. received the PMIEA under the mineral processing category.

In her keynote address, Loyzaga reaffirmed the DENR’s commitment to responsible mining through the implementation of a “pro-people, pro-environment, and science-based legislation, policies, and programs.”

The environment chief also pointed out the vital contribution of responsible mining to the country’s economic recovery and encouraged the mining sector to work with the DENR towards a sustainable future “where no ecosystem and no community are left behind.”

The Cabinet official feared that it could be a “gateway drug.”

“Let’s just make sure it’s airtight. Otherwise, it would be a pity on the children,” he added.

Last month, the Marcos administration launched the “Buhay Ingatan, Droga’y Ayawan” or BIDA program, which seeks to fight the drug problem through demand reduction and rehabilitation of persons who use illegal drugs.

In a statement on Thursday, the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) welcomed the government’s new strategy while also calling for an investigation into claims of abuses by the authorities.

“Genuine reform and policy shift also necessitate ascertaining [the] accountability of all perpetrators, including police personnel and liable officials, who are allegedly involved in killings related to the drug campaign in the previous and current administrations,” the CHR said.

“Parallel, sustained efforts in resolving the thousands of drug-related killings will demonstrate the government’s seriousness in giving justice to victims and curbing impunity.”

According to the DILG, since President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. assumed office in June, 22,646 drug personalities were arrested in 18,505 anti-illegal drug operations conducted by the Philippine National Police nationwide.

The PNP confiscated various illegal drugs valued at P9.7 billion during the operations, the DILG added.

Solon to DTI: Guard prices of goods for noche buena

Vargas, vice chair of the House committee on social services, appealed to the government to ensure the “just regulation” of prices of goods to alleviate the burden of Filipinos, especially as Christmas approaches and in the spirit of “bayanihan” and “malasakit.”

In its recently published Noche Buena Price Guide, the DTI reported that 195 out of 223 noche buena products have raised prices with nearly half increasing their prices by more than 10 percent.

“As we expect the increase in demand for noche buena goods and basic necessities due to the holiday season, it is imperative that prices of such commodities are regulated under the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, to help Filipino consumers while also protecting the rights and income of manufacturers and sellers,” the Quezon City congressman said in a statement.

Vargas earlier filed House Resolution 612, appealing to manufacturers and sellers to observe the recommended price ceilings for basic commodities to ease the burden of Filipinos who are still affected by the economic challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The DTI requested manufacturers of noche buena products last September to implement a maximum of 10 percent increase on their prices in recognition of the inevitable increase in prices of basic goods.

“As we expect the increase in demand for noche buena goods and basic necessities due to the holiday season, it is imperative that prices of such commodities are regulated under the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, to help Filipino consumers while also protecting the rights and income of manufacturers and sellers,” Vargas said in his resolution.

“While we slowly recover from the pandemic thanks to innovative fiscal and economic reforms being rolled out by the current administration, both producers and consumers must work together and be united to face these challenges especially amid the holidays,” he added.

UNIFIED... MMDA Acting Chairman Romando Artes said the mayors heeded to the call of Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos regarding confiscation of driver’s license of erring motorists.

Abalos expressed his gratitude to the NCR mayors for adhering to his appeal concerning driver’s license confiscation.

“I thank the Metro Manila mayors for heeding to my appeal. I would also like to reiterate that we maintain the authority of the LTO to confiscate driver’s license as the leading law enforcement agency in implementing traffic laws and the safety of the motoring public,” said Abalos.

For his part, LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Jay Art Tugade said it laid down the technical requirements for the MMDA and LGUs authorized to issue traffic violation tickets to tag and record traffic violations.

“Once the single ticketing system is finalized, the LTO will strictly implement its demerit point system to be able to properly monitor driver’s license records. License should only be issued to deserving and qualified drivers,” Tugade noted.

Artes added that no driver’s license shall be confiscated while

“Every LGU in NCR will pass an ordinance on this matter. For now, the existing ordinance/traffic laws of each LGU shall prevail. Subject to the passage of an ordinance, they are allowed to continue to confiscate driver’s licenses of erring motorists,” Artes noted.

Meanwhile, Artes said the agency, along with the LTO and 17 LGUs in Metro Manila, are still finalizing the integration of the single ticketing system.

Under the system, it will be easier and convenient for traffic violators in the metropolis to settle the penalties through Bayad Centers.

“We are finalizing the guidelines for the single ticketing system which includes the establishment of traffic adjudication court per LGU, incontestability of traffic violations, among others,” Artes said.

“We will have a 5th technical working group meeting that aims to enforce interconnectivity among the LGUs in Metro Manila.”

The single ticketing system is targeted to be implemented in the first quarter of 2023.

Register for village, SK elections, Olivares tells Paranaque voters

PARAÑAQUE City Mayor Eric L. Olivarez today urged his constituents, especially new voters, to register for the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections that are scheduled on October 30 next year.

Olivarez made the call after he received the schedule of voters’ registration from the Office of the Election Officers from the city’s two congressional districts. The registration will start on Monday, December 12 and will run until January 31, 2023.

“I am calling on new and eligible voters to register early,” he said.

voter registration will be held even on Saturdays and holidays to accommodate more registrants.

The only exceptions will be December 24, 26 and 31 when there will be no registrations.

For District I, the registration venue from December 12 to 17 will be at SM City Sucat Building B, while for District II, the venue will be SM City Bicutan on the same week.

From December 19 to 30, the registration for District I voters will be held at the Office of the Election Officer at the Parañaque City Hall, to be followed by off-site or satellite registration in the different barangays in District I from January 2 to 14, 2023.

The last phase of registration for District I will be held at the Parañaque City Sports Complex in Barangay San Antonio from January 16 to 31.

US sounds alarm over ‘harmful’ Iran-Russia military partnership

WASHINGTON—The United States on Friday expressed alarm over a “full-scale defense partnership” between Moscow and Tehran, describing it as “harmful” to Ukraine, Iran’s neighbors, and the world.

Washington has previously condemned Iran-Russia security cooperation, but on Friday described an extensive relationship involving equipment such as helicopters and fighter jets as well as drones, with the latter items resulting in new US sanctions.

“Russia is seeking to collaborate with Iran in areas like weapons development, training,” White House national security spokesman John Kirby told reporters.

Moscow “is offering Iran an unprecedented level of military and technical support -- that is transforming their relationship into a fully-fledged defense partnership,” he said.

“We have also seen reports that Moscow and Tehran are considering the establishment of a joint production line for lethal drones in Russia. We urge Iran to reverse course (and) not to take these steps.”

Moscow’s UN envoy Vassily Nebenzia pushed back later in the day, telling a Se-

On the third and final day of his visit, Xi attended a gathering of the six-member Gulf Cooperation Council and a broader China-Arab leaders’ meeting.

It was only Xi’s third journey outside China since the coronavirus pandemic began.

Friday’s talks followed bilateral sit-downs on Thursday with Saudi royals that yielded a joint statement stressing “the importance of stability” in oil markets -- a point of friction with the United States, which has urged the Saudis to raise production.

“China will continue to firmly support the GCC countries in maintaining their own security... and build a collective security framework for the Gulf,” Xi said on Friday

US... “pastorals” or young women within the KOJC selected to work as his personal assistants in the US and the Philippines who are allegedly required to have sex with the pastor.

“Quiboloy exploited his role within the KOJC to rape his victims and subject them to other physical abuse, describing these acts as sacrifices required by the Bible and by God for the victims’ salvation. The pastorals, who were mostly minors when initially abused by Quiboloy, were told by him to ‘offer your body as a living sacrifice’,” the statement said.

“One female reported she lost count of the number of times she was forced to have sex with Quiboloy, as it was at least once a week even when she was a minor and in every country to which they traveled.

Another woman reported she was forced to perform night duty at least 1,000 times,” it added.

The US Treasury Department also accused Quiboloy of subjecting KOJC members to physical abuse.

Quiboloy’s lawyers on Saturday was surprised by the action of the US Treasury Department.

His legal team consisting of KOJC general counsel Michael Jay Green, personal legal counsel Manny Medrano, and lawyer Ferdinand Topacio said there was lack of due process in the US sanctions on their client.

His lawyers previously denied the allegations against Quiboloy.

“It’s just a sad day. It’s a pathetic day when the press release could be

at the start of the China-GCC summit.

“China will continue to import large quantities of crude oil from GCC countries on an ongoing basis,” he said, also vowing to expand other areas of energy cooperation including liquefied natural gas imports.

Additionally, Xi said China would make full use of a Shanghai-based platform “to carry out RMB [yuan] settlement of oil and gas trade” -- a move that, if Gulf countries participate, could weaken the global dominance of the US dollar.

Asked at a press conference, as the summits came to close Friday evening, if Riyadh would agree to such a scheme, Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan said he had “nothing to add”.

issued by the United States government to Department of Treasury based on mere allegations. No one has been convicted,” Medrano said.

“Never mind the guilt or innocence at this point. The fact remains that the US government, the executive branch of the US government, has already pronounced sentence upon our client,” Topacio said, in an interview.

“This is unheard of. It’s hard to believe that the sanctions againstQuiboloy are coming from the US where the system of justice includes the presumption of innocence of the accused,” Green said.

“It’s as if Quiboloy is already guilty. They convicted him already. Something I never thought would happen in the US,” he added.

“It is a sad day for the US. I feel embarrassed as an American,” Green said.

The sanctions imposed on Quiboloy are based on Executive Order 13818 “for being a foreign person who is responsible for or complicit in, or has directly or indirectly engaged in, serious human rights abuse.”

EO 13818 is an executive order signed by former US President Donald Trump in 2017 which blocks properties in the US of persons involved in serious human rights abuse or corruption.

The sanctions mean all properties and interests in properties of Quiboloy in the US or held by US persons are blocked and must be reported to the Office of Foreign Assets Control of US Treasury Department.

“The prohibitions include the making of any contribution or provision of funds, goods, or services by, to, or for the benefit of any designated person, or the receipt of any contribution or provision of funds, goods, or services from any such person,”

curity Council meeting that “the military industrial complex in Russia can work perfectly fine and doesn’t need anyone’s assistance.”

The drone allegations, he said, were “already refuted” multiple times before.

Earlier, Kirby announced that the United States would sanction three Russian-based entities active in “the acquisition and use of Iranian drones.”

The sanctions target the Russian Aerospace Forces, the 924th State Center for Unmanned Aviation, and the Command of the Military Transport Aviation.

“The United States will continue to use every tool at our disposal to disrupt these transfers and impose consequences on those engaged in this activity,” Secretary of State Antony Blinken said in a statement on the sanctions.

Last month, Tehran admitted it had sent drones to Russia, but insisted they were supplied before the invasion of

Ukraine.

- ‘Sordid deals’Kirby said the United States is also concerned that Russia “intends to provide Iran with advanced military components,” including helicopters and air defense systems.

Iranian pilots have reportedly been learning to fly advanced Sukhoi Su-35 warplanes in Russia, and Tehran may receive the aircraft within the next year, which would “significantly strengthen Iran’s air force relative to its regional neighbors,” Kirby said.

The United States also believes that Iran is considering the sale of “hundreds of ballistic missiles” to Russia, he said.

Britain’s Foreign Secretary James Cleverly took aim Friday at the “sordid deals” between Moscow and Tehran, saying in a statement that Iran had sent drones to Russia in exchange for “military and technical support” from Moscow. AFP

Soccer scribe Wahl dies at World Cup

WASHINGTON—One of America’s leading soccer reporters, who made headlines when he was detained at the Qatar World Cup for wearing a rainbow shirt, died Friday while covering the quarter finals in Doha, according to his wife and the US Soccer federation.

Grant Wahl, 48, helped build soccer’s popularity in the United States through decades of vivid reporting at Sports Illustrated, then with CBS Sports.

According to NPR, Wahl collapsed in the press tribune as Friday’s Argentina-Netherlands match was winding down. Paramedics performed CPR at the scene before taking him away on a stretcher. The Wall Street Journal said Wahl apparently suffered a heart attack.

“Grant made soccer his life’s work, and we are devastated that he and his brilliant writing will no longer be with us,” US Soccer said in a statement. It said the “entire US Soccer family is heartbroken.”

Wahl’s wife Celine Gounder, a renowned epidemiologist and expert on infectious diseases, tweeted: “I’m in complete shock.” AFP

Indonesia bashed for Papua acquittal

JAKARTA—The acquittal by an Indonesian human rights court of a retired army officer from charges over the killing of four Papuan teens in 2014 was a sign of impunity, a representative of the families said.

The families called for the case to be reopened after a human rights court in Makassar, in South Sulawesi province, acquitted Isak Settu on Thursday from charges of “crimes against humanity”.

An earlier Indonesian human rights commission found that the military had shot the four high-school students during protests in Paniai, a central area of Papua province where a long-simmering insurgency has often flared into violence.

“We, the victims’ families and witnesses, see that the country commits impunity, and protects the perpetrators of the case of gross human rights violations in Paniai,” Yones Douw, who represents the victims’ families, told AFP late on Friday.

Settu faced 10 years in jail over his alleged role in the incident, when Indonesian security forces opened fire on a crowd protesting against the beatings of Papuan youths by the army. AFP

EO 13818 builds upon the Global Magnitsky Human Rights Accountability Act of 2016 which authorizes the US government to impose economic sanctions on foreign governments implicated in human rights abuses in any part of the world, freeze their assets and ban them from entering the US.

It expanded the scope of those covered by the Magnitsky Act by including individuals and entities associated with perpetrating human rights abuse or corruption.

Micro-credentials are short skills-focused qualifications that seek to support learners to skill up in a wide array of knowledge areas.

“It’s really skills training. We have to upskill everybody. We need to have a system that will work with everyone,” the chief executive pointed out.

In the meeting, the President raised the need to retrain and reskill overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who wish to come back to the country for good.

The President cited the Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) industry as an example, where workers have ramped up efforts to upskill for offshore medical jobs.

Mr. Marcos, who presided over the meeting, reported that 16 innovation centers are with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), hence the need to support Filipino workers in upskilling to stay competitive.

Scaling up micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) also took center stage in the meeting.

Meanwhile, a magnitude 5.6 earthquake rocked Davao Oriental early Saturday and was felt in nearby towns, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

The tectonic quake was located 51 kilometers southeast of Governor Generoso town. Intensity 4, which feels like the vibration from the passing of a light truck, was felt in the area.

The tremor struck at a depth of 61 kilometers around 4:01 a.m. There was no expected damage from the earthquake, but Phivolcs warned of aftershocks.

“Rosal” is forecast to cause light to moderate with at times heavy rains over Aurora province and the rest of Calabarzon and the Visayas.

Flooding and rain-induced landslides are expected, especially in areas highly susceptible to these hazards, according to PAGASA.

Meanwhile, tropical cyclone wind signal no. 1 has been hoisted over the northern portion of Catanduanes (Pandan, Gigmoto, Bagamanoc, Panganiban, Viga, Caramoran). These areas may experience strong winds.

SERIAL entrepreneur Kit Gabriel Lavilla had been nursing the idea of venturing into the food business even before the pandemic struck. That business venture pulled him back into the entrepreneurial world after two decades of being away from home.

Tacolicious: From cloud kitchen to mobile restaurant

He fondly calls this new venture his “pandemic baby”, an idea hatched and bred during the worst of times, and offered a means to ride the crisis by turning a disaster into an opportunity, particularly for his crew and suppliers.

“We came up with the idea in 2020 but made a go to have our very own first trailer in early 2021. While we were waiting for the food truck to be ready, we were trying one food concept after another. Thanks to our chef, who is a friend of a friend. He helped us perfected the taste and recipes we have conceptualized,” Lavilla said.

“My dilemma before fleshing out the concept is how to offer generous portions at a price not hurtful on the pocket, something the entire family will enjoy but within one’s budget,” he added.

Tacolicious Food Truck is a Mexicaninspired fusion quick-served mobile restaurant, affordably sumptuous at exactly the right portion and on-point pricing.

There has been a few food trailer concepts in the Philippines but Tacolicious Food Truck has been the most consistent yet, trailing its way to select events, often times during birthdays and weddings and even at bazaars. This is when Tacolicous started winning the hearts… and tummies of upland diners.

Lavilla said all his concepts - from mobile dining to Mexican fusion theme —are all reminiscent of his stint in the US. From where he lived and worked, Mexican food trucks were as ubiquitous as McDonald’s QSR.

Starting off as a cloud kitchen, the business initially thrived through the support of relatives, friends and the immediate community along the by-pass highway in Tubuan II Silang, Cavite where the trailer is stationed.

Traditional Mexican fares such tacos, burritos, chicken wings and quesadilla were the first few offerings served by the trailer. Lavilla experimented on having several variants of tacos and burritos, as well as a few more variants of the chicken wings.

Party fave tacos come in 7 variants - chicken, carnitas or pulled pork, fish, shrimp, steak, veggie and the latest addition is the birya. Burritos, on the other hand, is served as a vegetarian roll,

carnitas, chicken and steak roll.

Before Tacolicious, Lavilla delved on some real estate ventures after returning home to the Philippines from living in the US for 20 years.

In his younger years, he also managed a family business of manufacturing and supplying socks as a sub-contractor for an exporting firm based in a special economic zone in Rosario, Cavite.

Lavilla hailed from a long line of entrepreneurs, thus, manning a business is something he grew up with, and the tack of having a sound business acumen came as a natural trait. The maternal side of his family, the Sandejas, has established a name as one of the business stalwarts in Silang.

He noted it takes more than grit and perseverance to actually venture into food business amidst a crisis.

While food is considered a basic human need, snacks during hard times, take a back seat.

However the challenge was not gaining exposure nor selling the fares. Maintaining an honest, diligent set of crew pushed him to be more wary and discerning of his workers.

“I always tell them it’s a two-way street. We should dance to the same beat. The business provides livelihood for all of us, therefore we need to protect what is nurturing us,” he said, intimating a few instances of dishonesty and mismanagement that almost had the business at a tipping point in the first few months of operations.

Since its inception in 2020, Tacolicous did the rounds of events, parties, weddings, bazaars and even campaign sorties during the recent elections.

One of Tacolicious active patrons is former President Gloria MacapagalArroyo. The trailer is a regular sight at parties and family events in the Quezon City home of the former president. The former First Gentleman Jose Miguel Arroyo is a big fan of Tacolicious Tacos.

As restrictions were lifted, the trailer became more hectic presenting opportunities for double bookings that cannot be met due to lack of resources.

From a virtual kitchen, Lavilla built a brick and mortal counter allowing for curb side take-out and eventually setting up an al fresco dining patch

alongside the counter.

Expenses piled as more capital is invested but demand was also on an uphill. In fact, the trailer is booked until first quarter of 2023.

While still far from building a food empire, Lavilla is itching to set the bar higher by branching out to a more populous space where students, hospital and office workers abound presenting new growth opportunities to the food truck start-up.

The delivery of a second van is expected by early 2023. The new van will fill the demand for second bookings.

Tacolicious runs 2 promos weekly - the Taco Tuesday and Wingsday Wednesday

- as a token of gratitude to loyal patrons and a way to entice more customers to grab a bite and test the offerings. Lavilla attributed the growing number of loyal customers to his weekly promotions.

“We’re not earning much from these promos but we manage to offset potential loss with more orders. Like for Taco Tuesday, that’s buy 1 get 1, so a customer gets 6 tacos for the price of 3 tacos per order. Wingsday Wednesday is unli-wings or wings-all-you-can. It’s good buy,” he said.

One of his best sellers is the sampler package consisting or burritos, tacos, quesadilla and fries. The sampler comes in two different sizes and a bundle promo

Filipinos Show Renewed appetite for International Learning

AS THE world opens up and borders lift their restrictions, opportunities for international education started gaining ground with a 50-percent surge in demand among Filipino students in 2022.

IDP Philippines country director Jose Miguel Habana said the millennial Filipino is hungry for new knowledge, opportunities that can be better provided by studying abroad.

Filipinos show strong appetite for global education

“We have the digital capabilities and the global footprint to not only identify new trends and patterns, but to act on them quickly for our customers and clients. We will be where we need to be in terms of expansion,” he said at the opening of IDP Philippines newest office in Makati City.

Aside from international studies, the demand for overseas employment is also strong. Countries such as Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the United Kingdom and Ireland are starting to hire Filipino workers again

IDP forecasts the market size of international students in the Philippines to grow an annual average of 10 to 13 percent in the next 5 years.

Registered at the Securities and Exchange Commission in in 2014, CF4RM aims to help returning OFWs reintegrate themselves into the Filipino culture, back to their families and a ones.

The group provides support to help returning migrant-members adopt to the socio-cultural milieu of their homeland and help alleviate the condition of returnees and their families by allowing them free access to services and facilities within the CF4RM compound. Returnees are also offered a chance to be part of the cooperative and participate in livelihood programs espoused by the CF4RM livelihood group.

Balik Ginhawa Multipurpose Cooperative (Bagimpco), the cooperative formed by CF4RM in 2015, markets the goods produced by the livelihood unit led by Emmalyn Rubrico.

“Right now, we have a few products that we ourselves manufacture. We’re trying to have them certified by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) so we can export our products to countries where CF4RM is present,” she said.

Rubrico is working on the certification of its indigenous snacks like shoestring sweet potatoes, shoestring cassava, shoestring bananas, banana chips and rice coffee. All Bagimpco products are Halal certified.

Short staffed, the group has momentarily stopped the production of fruit jams and mushroom chips. Since the the group relies on volunteerism, the lack of manpower is another challenge that affects operations of the cooperative and livelihood unit. Othel V. Campos

Local BPO receives excellence award

TASKUS, a global provider of outsourced digital services and next-generation customer experience to fast-growing technology companies, bagged both the Outstanding Exporter Award and Outstanding Employer Award at the recently concluded Philippine Economic Zone Authority( PEZA) Excellence Awards.

“These awards are a testament to our commitment to generating and providing career opportunities to many Filipinos in the country, which has always remained a key market to TaskUs,” said TaskUs senior vice president for operations in Southeast Asia Dean Van Ormer.

Through the PEZA Excellence Awards, the agency recognizes outstanding Filipino employers and PEZA members who display excellence in their services and contribute to the improvement of Filipino laborers’ lives across the Philippines.

The Outstanding Exporter Award is given to PEZA members who accomplished outstanding performance in exports in terms of total export value,

growth, and net-trade balance. Meanwhile, the Outstanding Employer Award is granted to employers that generated the most number of jobs, held high regard for the welfare of their workers, and maintained harmony between labor and management.

TaskUs is a business process management firm founded Bryce Maddock and Jaspar Weir in Cavite, Philippines in 2008. It has been a member of PEZA since 2015.

Apart from the PEZA recognitions, TaskUs has received several prestigious recognitions in 2022, including “Company of the Year” from the American Business Awards, “Best Leadership Teams” from Comparably, and “Achievement in Customer Satisfaction” from the International Business Awards.

The Everest Group also named TaskUs as the world’s fastest-growing business

The Philippines is one of the first countries where IDP operated outside Australia. It is about this time when the Philippines began playing a major role in international education and development in 1969.

As a co-owner of the International English Language Testing System (IELTS), IDP is helping Filipinos fulfill this requirement for their visa and job application in English-speaking countries.

This is also why IDP is expanding its IELTS operations nationwide. It opened a computer-delivered IELTS laboratory in Bacolod last September and the addition of 5 more offices in 2023 will beef up the presence of IDP in the Philippines.

IDP also runs computer-delivered IELTS laboratories in Pampanga, Davao, and Bacolod bringing the world’s most recognized English proficiency test closer to Filipinos in the provinces. It also administers paper-based IELTS test in around 30 cities across the country.

For the upcoming year, the food truck will unveil new items to add to the menu. “We keep innovating our offerings so people won’t get tired of Tacolicious. In the pipeline is a really good burger recipe and crispy chicken recipe. We’re still in R&D on these, but we’re optimistic to have these new products onboard by early 2023,” Lavilla said. Othel V. PH Airbnb hosts celebrate the holidays with zest for travel

AS the holiday season awaits and the travel rebound continues to unfold, more Filipino travelers are embracing flexible travel while more homeowners turn to hosting on Airbnb for additional income.

A new survey commissioned by Airbnb revealed that over half of Filipinos polled expressed interest in becoming Airbnb Hosts to take advantage of the new appetite for travel.

Around the world, Airbnb has seen strong growth rates of new hosts, especially in countries with high inflation rates. Notably, 77 percent of Filipinos polled said they were looking for ways to offset rising costs of living.

The survey also shows the desire for travel remains high, with over 25 percent of respondents saying that they will continue to find ways to travel even if general costs of living rise.

In a trend that started since the pandemic, millions are now enjoying their newfound freedom to live and work anywhere.

Notably, 65 percent of Filipinos polled said that they are now more flexible in terms of their type of holidays and time of travel. Of those who plan to travel within the next year, 1 in 4 Filipinos said they plan to travel without set dates.

This new approach to travel and living continues to shape the choice of accommodation among Filipino travellers.

The growing appetite for travel among Filipinos puts homeowners in a unique position to take advantage of the Airbnb Setup, the all-new easy way to Airbnb one’s home which was announced early this month.

Statistics showed that in the 3rd Quarter of 2022, Pasay ranked as the top trending domestic destination for Filipino guests on Airbnb, followed by El Nido, Cebu City, Paranaque, and Iloilo City.

Airbnb’s General Manager for Southeast Asia, India, Hong Kong and Taiwan Amanpreet Bajaj noted the fundamental shifts towards long-term stays and flexible travel point to the increasingly important role that short-term accommodations (STRA) like Airbnb play in the new era of travel.

Tamayo back in action for UP against Ateneo in Game 1

Wednesday. Averaging 13.26 points and 7.26 rebounds per game, Tamayo’s presence underneath with Zavier Lucero gave the Fighting Maroons the muscles they need to keep up Blue Eagle Angelo Kouame’s imposing presence.

The 6’6” Tamayo has quickly recovered from a slight injury and is expected to once lead UP’s quest to retain its crown when the action starts at 6 p.m. at the Mall of Asia Arena.

“Hindi naman ganun kagrabe. He’ll be ready for the next game,” said Fighting Maroons coach Goldwin Monteverde after their 69-61 triumph over the thirdseed National University Bulldogs in their Final Four showdown last

The Blue Eagles, who are on their 15th finals appearance in the last 21 seasons, will count on their bigs, Dave Ildefonso and Kouame in their effort to take control of the boards.

Ildefonso provides an average of 12 points and 8.35 rebounds per game, while Kouame delivers 11.6 points and 11.33 boards per match.

Blue Eagles coach Tab Baldwin is wary of the Fighting Maroons, believing that they have more experience this time around.

“That Ateneo team in May had a lot more experience than this team. But I think this team(UP) has the DNA of underdogs, and I don’t think the team in May did,” said Baldwin.

This will be the second consecutive championship showdown between the two squads, a faceoff known as “the Battle of Katipunan” finals.

UP, which earned their second consecutive finals appearance, for the first time in league history, also has Malick Diouf giving them big numbers with 11.26 points and 8.13 rebounds.

The Blue Eagles are now in their sixth consecutive finals appearance, which is considered the school’s longest overall championship appearance streak in the league. Peter Atencio

Blazers seek to equalize; Knights aim to seal series

THE College of St. Benilde Blazers will have to deal with two veterans, King Carilipio and Louie Sangalang, if they are to equalize their best-of-three finals series with the Letran Knights on Sunday in Game 2 of the 98th National Collegiate Athletic Association men’s basketball tournament at the Araneta Coliseum.

The 6’2 Carilipio and the 6’4 Sangalang did a lot of damage in the shaded lanes as they helped control the boards in Game 1, with an 81-75 win last Sunday.

“I try to encourage them that we can compete with this Letran team. They beat us three times. But the good is, this is a series,” said Blazers coach Charles Tiu.

Game time is slated at 3 p.m., and if the Knights win, they will claim their 20th cage crown since 1938.

The Letran Knights are not known to be a high-scoring team with an average of 74.25 points per game.

But they can limit rivals to just 70.3 points, with the help of their experienced players.

And this is where Knights coach Bonnie Tan counts on when he unleashes Carilipio and Sangalang on the floor.“It’s the composure of the veterans. Sabi ko sa kanila, gamitin nila ang advantage nila, which is their experience.

Three other veterans, Fran Yu, Brent Paraiso, and Kurt Reyson are expected to lift the Knights when they seek a two-game sweep of their championship series.

The Blazers were hit hardest by cramps and injuries in the third and fourth quarters, and they missed at least four key players, Will Gozum, Miggy Corteza, Nayve and Migs Oczon in the closing minutes of the game.

Oczon, who averaged 12.24 points, 4.94 rebounds, 2.59 assists, and 1.0 steals, is a doubtful starter in Game 2 after he landed on the foot of Letran’s Kyle Tolentino resulting in a sprain in the first quarter.

“Ang sabi ko sa kanila, we will not win if we just outscore Benilde. We just have to focus and correct on defense,” added Tan. Peter Atencio

If they don’t, they square off in the battle for bronze set early afternoon Sunday.

Both ways, the Philippines is assured of the podium and the best finish ever in a prestigious international beach volleyball tournament.

“Thank you Sisi,” were Gonzaga’s first words, and hugged Rondina tightly during their mixed zone interview moments after

Gonzaga had her shades on but the tears flowing down her cheeks gave her emotions away.

Rondina responded with a playful tap on the cheeks of her partner for only two weeks.

“I’m really motivated and inspired by Sisi [Rondina] in the second set after struggling in the first set,” Gonzaga said. “She gave me confidence and she trusted me so I stepped up and finally made some key plays.”

It was only two weeks ago when Gonzaga was tapped to replace Bernadeth Pons, who has yet to fully recover from a shoulder injury. The Rondina-Pons tandem won back-to-back bronze medals in the Southeast Asian Games.

PNVF president Ramon “Tats” Suzara was ecstatic over the twin victories.

POWERFUL and empowering, the Color of the Year 2023 encourages experimentation and self-expression without restraint as we welcome a more positive future.

Viva Magenta (PANTONE 18-1750), which descends from the red family – a brave and fearless hue that depicts the signal of strength, is a shade ingrained in nature, it vibrates with vim and vigor.

A perfect balance between the warm and the cool, the boundaryless tone exudes dynamism, asserts without being aggressive, and calls for a stand-out statement without being boldly dominating.

The Pantone Color Institute – the specialist unit that highlights the seasonal runway colors, forecasts global color trends, and advises color for product and brand visual identity – believes that Viva Magenta’s pulsating hue promotes optimism and joy in these unconventional times.

“In this age of technology, we look to draw inspiration from nature and what is real,” noted Pantone Color Institute Executive Director Leatrice Eiseman

“Viva Magenta is inspired by the red of cochineal, one of the most precious dyes belonging to the natural dye family as well as one of the strongest and brightest the world has known,” she added. “Rooted in the primordial, it reconnects us to original matter. Invoking the forces of nature, it galvanizes our spirit, helping us to build our inner strength.”

Fashion designer and industry expert Ionica Abrahan Lim, an educator at the De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde School of Environment and Design, explained that both the 2023 color of the year and fashion forecast promise warmth and comfort for a vibrant future.

“Viva Magenta exudes excitement,” she stated. “With the trends next year, which are generally bolder and more expressive, this energetic shade perfectly reflects people’s new-found zest for fashion.”

The new animated red, which seamlessly complements the expressive approach of the 2023 fashion styles, lends a strong presence when applied to different materials on apparel and accessories. Its vivid color elevates the fun and playful prints, in time for the comeback of vacation-ready looks that double as a business ensemble.

“Fashion and color serve as a visual language as we reveal our authentic selves and Viva Magenta can easily complement an individual’s character,” Abrahan Lim added. “It signals optimism and courage, which shows how people are more fearless in their fashion choices.”

The enthusiastic shade likewise makes a bold statement in the beauty department. It brings a striking approach in a variety of applications from glittery and glam to dusty matte and renders a head-turning pop of color for the eyes, nails, lips, and hair.

With its dynamic vibrancy, the nuanced crimson likewise energizes the environment and adds drama into home interiors. It suits diverse textures and surfaces and captivates the essence of nature whether through painted walls, bold patterned accents, furniture and décors, or artworks.

For graphic applications, packaging, and multimedia design, the transformative red is an electrifying and hybrid shade that demands attention. It depicts life, strength, and a rebellious spirit that comfortably straddles the physical and virtual in the multi-dimensional world.

“The color of the year is so versatile and inclusive, it is our chance to be creative in presenting our own story,” Abrahan Lim advised.

new song “Eyes On You.” The infectious track finds Nicky describing what it feels like to be completely infatuated with someone at first glance.

“Eyes On You” arrives alongside a camp-style official video that follows an apprehensive Nicky as he cat-sits for a neighbor and, in the end, wins the hearts of the kitten and its owner. Directed by Vision Kid, the visual made its broadcast premiere on MTV Live, MTVU, MTV Biggest Pop, and on the Paramount Times Square billboards.

In speaking about “Eyes On You,” Nicky says: “I wrote this song after a special person in my life moved to California. We were finally in the same state, and it felt so good to be close to them. The weekend before I wrote it, I had gone to a country concert and was inspired by how fun and energetic country songs can be, as well as how full they feel live.”

“I wanted to try to capture those feelings with this song. The combination of those two events was enough for me to write a fun love song you can sing in your car or scream along with all of your friends at a concert,” he carries on.

“Eyes On You” follows Nicky’s summer smash hit “Sunroof.” Tallying over 650 million streams to date, the track spent 11 consecutive weeks in the Top 10 on Billboard’s Hot 100 (peaked at #4). The success of “Sunroof” also earned Nicky his first nomination at the 2022 MTV VMA’s for “Song of the Summer” and saw the star make his television debut on The TODAY Show.

“Kailangan mong balikan palagi kung saan ka nagsimula, kung ano yung naging pundasyon bakit ka na nasa sitwasyon mo ngayon, at bakit ganito karami ang sumusuporta sayo,” Angela said during the mediacon for her album.

Five gripping character arcs that will keep you hooked on ‘Ever Night’

THE evolving story of the historical Chinese drama

Ever Night: War of Brilliant Splendours, airing weeknights at 10:15 p.m. on Kapamilya Channel, Jeepney TV, A2Z, and TV5, promises more twists as it delves deeper into Ning Que (Dylan Wang) and San San’s (Song Yi Ren) journey.

Midway into the season, Ning Que’s mission to save San San’s life from a mysterious and chilling sickness takes darker turns when they encounter various allies and foes along the way. Each one adds another layer of suspense that keeps viewers hooked on this exciting fantasy adventure.

Here are five story arcs that are keeping viewers on edge with the developing romance, action, and drama in Ever Night

1. San San discovering her true identity and doomed fate

While seemingly sweet and harmless, many begin to wish death upon Ning Que’s maid and wife San San after confirming her true identity as the daughter of the God of Death and the prophesied immortal that would bring forth darkness and chaos to the world.

San San struggles with this truth, as she doesn’t want to be a burden anymore to Ning Que and the rest of the world. At times, she would want to end her own life, but her love for Ning Que prevails. However, will she be able to survive the endless number of

enemies chasing them?

2. Long Qing’s fall from grace and quest for revenge

After suffering a humiliating defeat by Ning Que and not being able to win Lady Chenjia’s (The Flower Scholar) heart, Long Qing (Sun Zu Jun) harbored bitterness in his heart.

As his powers are slowly recovering from his initial downfall, Long Qing has made it his life’s purpose to take revenge and make Ning Que’s life a living hell. Ning Que and San San barely escape his clutches in their recent encounter so we’ve yet to see if Long Qing will satiate his obsessive thirst to avenge his honor.

3. The heartbreaking unrequited love of Mo Shanshan

Mo Shanshan (Yuan Bing Yan) has developed a deep

for Ning Que, especially after he helped her master the art of the Divine Calligraphy. But while Ning Que can only see her as a trusted friend, this does not deter her from protecting him and his beloved San San from their enemies. We’ve yet to find out how far she can endure as she puts her own life in danger for a man who cannot love her back.

sickly San San got better.

However, now that San San is speculated as the daughter of the God of Death and the prophesied immortal that would bring forth darkness and chaos to the world, Ye Hongyu is caught between the choice of stopping them or keeping her promise.

5. Ning Que’s pursuit to save his beloved San San If there’s one thing that keeps the story moving, it’s Ning Que’s pure love for San San. No matter what obstacle comes their way, Ning Que does everything to protect San San.

While he is having a hard time believing that San San is the prophesied daughter of Darkness who will rule on the world’s doom’s night, Ning Que knows that her heart is pure and full of love. But is love enough to save them from all the tragedy

befalling their path?

What could be next for these heroes and foes? Will Ning Que be able to escape their enemies and cure San San? Will the prophesied Eternal Night truly bring threatening chaos and darkness?

Ye Hongyu’s impossible decision between killing or helping Ning Que As the grand priest of justice, it is Ye Hongyu’s (Liu Ke Jun) duty to uphold in maintaining peace and protecting the world from the Eternal Night. Many believe she should already pursue and kill Ning Que as he was suspected to be the son of Death, yet Ye Hongyu held her ground as there was no proof of it yet. She even promised to not hurt him until the

Keeping it safe for our pets during Christmas

THE holiday season is quickly approaching, and many pet owners intend to involve their four or two-legged non-human family member in the celebrations.

It's crucial to make an effort to keep your pet's eating and exercise routines as similar to their regular schedule as possible while you get ready for the holidays. Please make sure to keep pets away from the unhealthy snacks, poisonous plants, and hazardous decorations.

The holidays may be enjoyable for us humans, but they may be very dangerous for our animalfamily members. Don't let a trip to the emergency vet ruin your Christmas! With seasonal plants and decorations, the Christmas tree may be the most dangerous part of the holiday season for your pet. Failure to pet-proof the "O Tannenbaum" this holiday season may lead to unhappy tummies, severe injuries, exorbitant veterinary expenses, or even tragedy.

Christmas decors that post risks to pets

The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), in the article “Winter Holiday Pet Safety,” says that if pets try to play with the lights and ornaments on Christmas trees or climb on them, they may topple over. To secure your tree, think about using fishing line to tie it to the ceiling or a doorframe.

In the US, most households usually get a real tree for their Christmas tree. And they use water additives to preserve it. Pets may be harmed by Christmas tree water additives. If you have dogs in the house, do not add aspirin, sugar, or anything else to the water for your tree, as AVMA reminds us.

Avoid mistletoe and holly since they can make pets sick and make them throw up and have diarrhea, says AVMA. Mistletoe can upset the stomach and lead to heart issues.

Ingesting a variety of lilies can also result in renal failure in cats. Choose a pet-safe bouquet or choose artificial plants made of silk or plastic that are just as cheery.

Kittens, on the other hand, adore this sparkly, light-catching "toy" that is simple to throw around and carry in their jaws, called Tinsel-less Town. But a nibble can turn into a swallow, and a swallow can turn into an obstruction in the digestive track, which can cause severe vomiting, dehydration, and even surgery. It's preferable to use decorations other than tinsel to enhance your boughs, AVMA claims.

This particular reminder, I am always conscious of---- place glass or plastic ornaments, wiring, and batteries out of reach of pets. The mouth and esophagus of your pet could be harmed by shards of breakable ornaments, a wire could provide a possibly fatal electrical shock, a punctured battery could result in burns, and a punctured battery could cause burns to the body. I have had a few cats that nearly got electrocuted because of their “wire munching.”

Holiday food dangers for pets

The Bow Wow Meow Pet Insurance, in the article “Pet Safety Tips: To Keep Your Pets Safe and Happy This Christmas and New Year’s Eve,”

reminds us about the dangers of holiday food and treats. You already know that you should not give your pet dog or cat chocolate or anything else that contains caffein and xylitol, but do you know how far a cunning animal will go to get its mouth on some tasty treats?

1. Your pets should not be allowed near the table or unattended plates of food.

2. Also, trash can lid should be tightly closed. Curiosity may kill the cat, you know.

3.Bow Wow Meow also reminds us that feeding your furry pet bones or fatty, spicy, or off-limits human foods is not advisable.

There are pther enjoyable alternatives for pets to participate in the celebrations without pets getting harmed and the owners incurring high medical costs.

If you plan to serve adult holiday beverages at your gathering, be sure to put any unattended alcoholic beverages out of reach of animals. If consumed, your pet can get sick, weak, or even enter a coma, possibly leading to death from respiratory failure, says Bow Wow Meow.

Plan ahead for your pet’s safety during the holidays. Bow Wow Meow suggests to give your pet a private room to call his own, complete with fresh water and a comfy spot to cuddle. Shy animals like dogs and cats may prefer to skulk around in their carrying case, beneath a piece of furniture, or in a different area where there is

less activity.

Ask your animal-loving visitors to feel free to start a lovely play or petting session with your dogs if they'd want to offer them a little additional attention and exercise while you're busy taking care of the party. But request that they treat your pet with care. Dogs frequently don't like to be gazed at, cuddled, or patted on the head but may like a belly rub or a scratch under the chin as Bow Wow Meow reminds us.

Bow Wow Meow also suggests to make sure your pet is well-behaved for the festivities, review its obedience training a few days before the guests arrive.

They are also saying that you should inform your visitors of your pet's house rules. This covers guidelines such as whether your pet is permitted on the couch, which rooms are off-limits, where you should be when your pet is eating, and more.

This Christmas season, considering these reminders and suggestions, will definitely help you enjoy your holidays without any unfortunate events with your pets.

Let’s Cook Pare!, through Save Animals of Love and Light –Save ALL Inc., showed pet owners there are meals and treats that they themselves can make to complement their regular meals of dog food and cat food. This shows how the officers of Let’s Cook Pare! also give importance to pets.

One of the pioneering community of home cooks in the country, Let’s Cook Pare! held the first-ever gathering of home cooks in partnership with the Greenfield District Corporation. Let’s Cook, Pare! (LCP), replicated the effort to help its members that it extended at the height of the pandemic.

LCP, a non-government organization that started in Facebook, became relevant to the cooking community as quarantine cooking

became one of every Filipino’s anxiety outlet.

Let’s Cook, Pare! was created on August 16, 2018 by Jeff Chua and Archie Chua, who both share the same passion for food. The creators wanted to form a community where people can share their home-cooked recipes, that were either original, passed on from generations, or inspired by others. They were later on joined by friends and family members. Five admins ---among them entrepreneurs, Jeff and Vince Chua of the Bigbert’s Professional Detailers, Archie Chua of Crystal Lamps, Liberty Insurance executive, Bobet Arandia, and Tsaris Salgado, a public relations and marketing professional --- oversee the community. The community believes in sharing of knowledge and information. It promotes positivity and positive reinforcement.

Here are two of the three pet-safe and healthy recipes shared by Save ALL Inc, a non-profit group that has rescued 600 dogs and cats due to be killed in pounds and who were sick or injured in the streets and have had 300 animals neutered.

Chef, BrownRoots, Cordillera Landing on You (CLOY), Crafty Cuts, Eat Girls, Food Delight, Krav, Mang Itz Kebab, The Bistro Box, Sayonora, Sweetums Tasty Delight.

With Pinoy Christmas Fiesta as theme, LCP members, their families and the public enjoyed a whole day of fun-filled activities. Among the activities were the annual 14 Days of Christmas gift giving, livelihood starter set for lucky members, home cooking challenge and demo, learning sessions for home-based entrepreneurs.

“Let’s Cook Pare, continues its commitment to assist its members, especially those who needs alternative source of livelihood to augment their family’s income, through the modest livelihood kits it provided,” said Jeffrey Chua, LCP’s community creator.

“Aside from helping our members, we aim to continue our partnership with corporate brands and work side by side with them in bouncing back from the effects of the pandemic,” said Tsaris Salgado, LCP Marketing Communication lead.

Let’s Cook, Pare! community became a creative outlet for its members and allowed them to get connected outside of their homes. The members actively participated in community discussions and shared their home cooked meals, taking advantage of a platform that allow them to flex their ‘creations’ and enjoy their dreams of living a ‘chef-life’.

The LCP was also able to help the country’s SMES and some corporate brands because of its accessibility online where they were able to sell food and other relevant kitchen/home cooking appliances, items, etc. A number of members here and abroad likewise shared that recipes they got from the community inspired them to start their own

selling business that allow them to have an alternative source of income.
