P206.5b set for inflation ayuda Gov't subsidies, cash support to vulnerable sectors amid rising prices

T

HE government will be doling out P206.5 billion in subsidies and cash support to the most vulnerable sectors next year amid surging commodity prices brought about by global inflation.

The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) said this amount under the proposed 2023 national budget covers cash transfers and other subsidy programs of various agencies. The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) will get a big chunk of the budget, with P165.40 billion allocated to various social assistance programs. About P22.39 billion will also be provided for to provide medical assistance to indigent and financially incapacitated patients through the Department of Health (DOH).

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), meanwhile, will get P14.9 billion next year for Tupad, a program that provides emergency employment for displaced, underemployed and seasonal workers. The Department of Transportation (DOTr) will get P2.5 billion for fuel subsidies for the public transport sector. CARLOS Yulo settled for a silver medal in the men's vault finals of the 2022 World Gymnastics Championships in Liverpool, United Kingdom late Sunday night (Manila time) Yulo, who finished with 14.950, relinquished the world title in the apparatus to Artur Davtyan of Armenia who garnered 15.050. Ukraine's Igor Radivilov, who scored an average of 14.733, was at third place. Yulo will still compete in the parallel bars in a bid to land on the podium.

Search may stop for 17 still missing in Paeng’s wake By Rio N. Araja THE Maguindanao provincial government will decide on Monday whether to continue looking for the 17 people who went missing in the aftermath of Severe Tropical Storm Paeng.

COVID infection in NCR at 5-month low By Willie Casas THE COVID-19 positivity rate in the National Capital Region (NCR) has gone down to 8.9 percent, the lowest positivity rate in the region since July 4, according to the independent monitoring OCTA Research Group.
