Saturday afternoon provided the perfect excuse, after swimming and snorkeling Ce bu’s seas, to pay a visit to the 10,000 Roses Café near the foot of the CCLEX bridge on the Cordova side. Even at daytime the Ins tagrammable site draws the patrons, but it literally shines at night with its field of floral LED delights, so future visitors might want to take that into account.

with MICE venues my hometown could offer. I had to ask my Cebu-based friends to help me “look around” for a suitable venue for this big event which always at tracts Tourism leaders from all over the world. With the help of our Department of Tourism, we found Radisson Blu Cebu as the perfect venue for the world event… and the rest is history. The PATA Annual Summit in Cebu had close to 500 interna tional delegates from about 200 tourism organizations in 43 countries. The best part was that they all had positive feed back on the event and on the facilities and venue used for that annual get-together. I had the opportunity to chat with the hotel’s amiable General Manager Bjorn-Henning Buth, Director of Sales and Marketing Marife Pepino-Yuson, and Marketing Communications Man ager Ian Baol over coffee and I have to say that I could feel their excite ment and enthusiasm. They enumer ated the steps they have taken in keeping the hotel ready for the travel surge that the Industry is experienc ing now. Needless to say, Radisson Blu Cebu will continue to stand tall, as it journeys through this new, brighter chapter of global tourism.

As it turns out, this outing was a perfect template for future visits to dear old Cebu, one that could be replicated on a long week end whether on “low” tourist season or “high,” and no less enjoyable for all members of the family, novices or jaded Bisaya biyaheros alike.
PART from dominating the skyline of Cebu City’s downtown area with its majestic 21-storey building, Radisson Blu Cebu stands tall, as it continues to keep its promise of delivering five-star service to its guests, with such quality maintained even when the pandemic wreaked havoc on our tourism industry.

With bellies, baggage, and eyes full from the whirlwind weekend, our tour group reluctantly said our adieus to Manong Pete and our hosts in Cebu as we landed back in NAIA. Using the other meaning of the word “bai” (friend in Bi saya), I can say, with a bit of wordplay, “Nindot pa gihapon ang Cebu” (Cebu is still beautiful) – and I would want to come back for more.

I’ve talked to some friends who arrived from abroad and stayed at the hotel to complete the man datory quarantine period, and they were gushing over the efficient and nurtur ing service that the hotel’s staff rendered. These guests knew that the hotel, just like every other hotel in the country, had limited staff during the various levels of the government-imposed quarantine restrictions, yet, they did not feel that the staff experienced challenges in the delivery of service. The quality of ser vice they received was still topnotch… and that’s what a hotel standing tall is allBeingabout.the only de luxe international chain hotel in the city, Radisson Blu Cebu continues to get its fair share of domestic tourists, especially now that our country’s LGUs have made it easier for our countrymen to criss cross our archipelago. Naturally, the hotel is also looking forward to its share of foreign arrivals because our country has now made it easy for fully vaccinated visitors to spend their holi days here in our shores.
This being my first trip back to Cebu post-pandemic (one of my last pre-COV ID-19 sojourns was also to Cebu, albeit to breathtaking Sumilon Island to the south of the province, and also Manong Pete’s “fault”), I was curious to see how the

Braving the masses at suddenlybusy Ninoy Aquino International Airport at dawn on a Friday, our group arrived via CebuPac about two hours later at Mactan Cebu In ternational Airport – which barely looks like anything it was three years before, pre-COVID. That is, Cebu’s aerial hub is much nicer now, and a fitting platform to ex plore the rest of the province.
