INDUSTRY experts have predicted that pump prices of diesel and kero sene may possibly go up by as much as P6 next week, the second oil price adjustment within the month, if ever. Diesel prices are expected to increase by P5.90 to P6.20 per liter, and P5.80 to P6.10 per liter for ker osene.Onthe other hand, gasoline prices may be raised by P1.20 to P1.60 per liter.Oil firms have confirmed the ex pected oil price hike for Tuesday next week.Sources cited the higher demand in diesel as winter approaches some countries."Sabansang malalamig, ginagamit siya parang pang-init. May mga bansa rin na harvest season na nila. Ginag amit ang petroleum products," said Rodela Romero, assistant director of the Department of Energy’s oil industry management bureau. The tight supply of oil products due to the ongoing armed conflict between Russia and Ukraine was also a factor.“Based on a four-day monitoring, there will be an increase in the prices of petroleum products due to high demand brought about by the harvest and winter season,” Romero said. Romero said the threats of a Rus sian oil embargo by the end of the year also pushed up world oil prices. She said gasoline might go up by “more than P1” while diesel and kerosene could increase by more than P5 per liter. She said she hoped prices would go down in Friday’s trading. “Around P5 per liter for diesel and gasoline, almost P1 per liter,” an industry source said. On Aug. 23, the oil companies raised gasoline prices by P1.70 a liter, diesel by P2.60 a liter, and kerosene by P2.80 a liter. These resulted in the total year-todate adjustments at a net increase of P18.15 per liter for gasoline, P31.70 per liter for diesel, and P27.10 per liter for kerosene.

OTTAWA -- NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg on Friday stressed the need to beef up security along the alli ance’s northern flank to counter Russia, as he wrapped up a visit to Canada that included a tour of its Arctic defenses.

The heavily redacted FBI affidavit released on Friday laid out the grounds for the authorization by a Florida judge of an unprecedented raid on the home of a former president, a move which ignited a political firestorm in a bitterly divided nation.

“The high north is strategically import ant for Euro-Atlantic security,” Stoltenberg told a news conference at an air base in Cold Lake, Alberta, noting that with Finland and Sweden joining, seven of eight Arctic states will be NATO members. “The shortest path to North America for Russian missiles and bombers would be over the North Pole,” he also warned. “This makes NORAD’s role vital for North America and therefore also for NATO.”

AFP Pope Francis creates new cardinals who may choose his successor soon VATICAN CITY— Pope Francis will Satur day created 20 new cardinals picked from the four corners of the world, most of whom could one day end up choosing the pontiff’s successor.Francis has raised the possibility of retiring due to his declining health, a path taken by his predecessor Benedict XVI. If he were to do so, a conclave involving all cardinals aged under 80 would be called to pick a Sixteensuccessor.ofthe20 cardinals created Saturday would be eligible for that conclave based on their ages. The ceremony at St. Peter’s Basilica is the 85-year-old pope’s eighth since being elected in 2013 and includes clergy known for their pastoral work and, in some cases, progressive views. All parts of the globe are represented, including new cardinals from Brazil and Nigeria, Singapore, and East Timor, among others. After this weekend, Francis will have chosen 83 out of the 132 cardinals currently qualified to elect a new pope. That is nearly two-thirds of the total and precisely the percentage needed for any proposed name to pass. In recent months, the pope has been forced to rely on a wheelchair due to knee pain, which he has said is inoperable. He also suffers from sciatica, a chronic nerve condition that causes pain in his hip. - Future clues? The new cardinals are always scruti nized by Vatican observers for clues as to the future direction of the Church and its 1.3-billion faithful. Experts caution, however, that cardinals named by one pope do not necessarily choose successors in their likeness.

SUGAR... controlling the timing of the release of stocks and importation of the sweetener, Lamata said: “It’s all about money. The more they hoard, constrict, the more money they make.” “We don’t have any lack of sugar. There is none. Because you go out anywhere, you can buy, but it’s very, very high. So, there’s no shortage,” the Unifed chief said, echoing See’s earlier statement on the TV program. He said his peers are very happy with the changes President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., as concurrent Agriculture Secretary and SRA board chairman, made in the agency, adding he’s confident it’s “back to normal” now. Lamata added that the local sugar industry “was never against importation, it’s just the timing. Never, never import when it’s harvest season.” That’s why he and See found it curious when Serafica signed Sugar Order No. 3 last February, which authorized the importation of 200,000 metric tons of sugar during the Philippines’ peak sugar milling season– thus depressing the prices that sugar planters could fetch for their crops. “It is not Serafica’s call to declare a shortage when sugar mills are still in operation,” Lamata said in a statement six months ago. “It is appalling that the very agency that is supposed to protect us seems determined to kill the industry.”

AFP Arctic ‘strategicmilitarizationchallenge’

See underscored the impact of the sugar importation mess on their industry, noting that sugar prices will go up. “That’s a big problem for our exporters,” he said. “Sugar is an important input in our food manufacturing. If the price of sugar is more than ₱50, the exporters will not be veryForcompetitive.thedomestic market, we cannot compete with these high (sugar) prices. Consumers would suffer,” See added. Serafica, who has resigned, admitted in a Senate hearing last week that he did not consult the SRA board when he and his staff drafted the controversial Sugar Order No. 4, which supposedly green-lighted the importation of 300,000 metric tons of the substance, a move the President later blocked.Inother developments:

“As a company that puts people first, we aim to continuously make SAP an ideal place for work and foster every individual’s professional and personal development. By le veraging SAP technology, we always make sure that we embed diversity and inclusion practices in our pro cesses. So, I look forward to shar ing best practices and ideas with our partners and customers in this area,” said Abrahams.

The tech company successfully deployed its technology solution for banks includ ing UnionBank, East West Bank, PSBank, Land Bank and many others, enabling digital transformation and frictionless banking. With large rural population and infrastruc ture gaps, it is estimated that roughly seven in 10 Filipinos are financially excluded. Data from the Bangko Sentral Ng Pilipinas show that more than half of borrowers source their loans from informal sources. Lack of access to financing is also a key barrier to the growth of SMEs and MSMEs, especially rural-based small enterprises. Without access to financial services, the cycle of poverty is hard to break. “Without a credit history, borrowers cannot secure loans from the banks, so what people do instead is they go and take a loan from a loan shop or a moneylender, which means that they have to pay very high interest. Which also means that already poor people gets even poorer,” said Bank-Genie co-founder Raghu Nandan. “We believe technology that can be de ployed at scale with minimal costs is the key driver to address the problem of the un banked,” said Sharma. Nandan and Sharma share their enthusi asm for the potential power of technology to bring banking services to millions of people in remote parts of a country as vast as Phil ippines. Bank-Genie’s technology platform is one way of overcoming the costs factor that inhibits banks from serving remote commu nities.Bank-Genie unveiled its big expansion plans for the Philippines. The team is working actively to expand its headcount in Manila as it plans on launch ing a range of new products in the coming months.“Ourvision has always been to bring the bank at every doorstep and democratise fi nancial services to make it accessible to ev ery citizen of the world,” said Sharma. It is a perfect comple ment to our Yogurt Shake, since it aligns with our company’s purpose, which is to make a positive impact to people, commu nities and the environment,” said shares Tim Chuongco of Yo! Madi Yoghurt Shakes. Quorn meat-free products have satisfied the palates of diners, contrary to miscon ceptions about the taste of meat-free alter natives. Yo! Madi, whose chunky fillet sand wich and Philly cheese sandwich are made of Quorn, has seen repeat orders for these, making them bestsellers. “Many custom ers are first time triers of the brand, and are pleasantly surprised by the real-meat taste of the products,” said Chuongco. Quorn’s flexibility has allowed non-veg etarian restaurants to cater to vegetarian customers. “Quorn expanded the number of dishes they can order from our menu, and allowed us to offer them meat-free Indone sian food,” said Louh Decena of Warung Kapitolyo, which serves classic Indonesian food and popular street food. “Our vegetar ian customers are happy they can finally try our traditional meat dishes like Beef Ren dang, Martabak Telur and Sate Ayam but using Quorn as the meat substitute.”

S OCIAL media has become a way of life for almost every person today—from simply sharing sneak peeks of one’s daily activities to influencing a person’s decision-making, which can affect not only his or her future but also that of the entire nation.

Per Relauo, the pandemic paved the way for social media to become an important tool for political candidates during the election period.

CityReluao who is also the CEO of a consulting agency, BranReluao & Associates, recently launched his own digital agency called Authority Asia.

“A deep-dive is needed so that we get the insights and with the use of third-party analytics, we  could be able to understand better the target voters,” he explains. “We get the de mographics,  understand the behavior and interest of our target voters via social media. There are a lot of tools  and analytics that could provide us with a comprehensive study of the target market. So social  media is more sophisticated than ever.”  “With the proper guidance of insights and analytics, we create content – for example, a campaign  video – that will appeal to a certain segment of voters. In addition, there are advertisements on every digital platform wherein it gives the power to a political candidate to narrow and target a certain segment of audience. If we just want to talk to a certain group of audience or this content will be visible only to them, that’s actually possible,” Reluao says.  Reluao concludes that social media can actually shape and define the real ity of a certain  individual, in terms of decision-making. “Withtheuseof social media, the narrative or the story that these can didates wanted people to  believe in could be controlled, especially when they know how the algorithm of every platform works,” he concludes.

WITH a career already established internationally and growing rapidly in the States, the London-born, Australian songwriter and pop prodigy Ruel is back with a first look at his debut album in the brand-new single, “You Against Yourself” via RCA Records. The song, co-produced by esteemed producers Sammy Witte (Harry Styles, Halsey, King Princess) and M-Phazes (Khalid, Sam Fischer, Noah Cyrus) is accompanied by a new music video from creative director Grey Ghost (Troye Sivan). With over 2 billion streams worldwide and a string of sold-out world tours, Ruel has firmly established his moniker as an influential singersongwriter and young artist to watch. Having spent the last two and a half years writing and recording over 100 new songs, Ruel’s most recent releases include the young anthem “Growing Up Is ___” and the introspective track, “Let The Grass Grow.” No stranger to success, his bourgeoning repertoire also includes the multi-platinum singles “Younger,” “Dazed & Confused,” and “Painkiller,” the latter of which became a Top 10 international hit and went on to go 3x platinum. Now the Aussie native is back with “You Against Yourself” – an up-tempo pop anthem. Ruel’s honest lyrics are on display as listeners get a peek into the 19-year-old’s relationships, over a massive chorus paired with gorgeous falsetto harmonies. “You Against Yourself” is about someone in my life who has lots of self-destructing qualities. “It’s about that feeling of reaching out to them to let them know the direction they’re heading in isn’t healthy and even though it seems like there’s little hope and you feel helpless, you’re still rooting for them,” ends Ruel.

Crystal’s single “Hintay,” under GMA Playlist, now has its Extended Play (EP) that comprises LoFi, Chill Vibe, Live, and Minus one versions. This soothing love song was composed by Rina Mercado and is about a person being cautious about her budding romance with someone. “The lyrics is very self-explanatory, it says that you wait for me because it’s possible na pwedeng ikaw na ‘yung last love ko, pwedeng ikaw na ‘yung the one so I want to take it slow, I wanna be sure. Baka kapag ako na ‘yung biglang umamin, ‘pag nagpadalos-dalos ako, baka hindi mo rin pala ako gusto. I just want to be sure,” Crystal shared. Meanwhile, Vilmark’s “Paraya,” under GMA Music, was self-composed and is about letting go of a person who makes you“It’shappy.ahugot song and I’m very proud na ako po ‘yung nagsulat mismo ng kanta. The melanism gene, which creates black coats, also influences a cat's im mune system. These cats' immune systems are stronger, and they are more resistant to some infections like FIV (feline immunodeficiency disorder), according to researchers. Protein-rich diet is best for cats for a long, healthy life

By Czarina Brozo CATS need an animal-based protein diet, says Dr. Cissy Ramos of Vets in Practice animal hospital. Contrary to the popular opinion that cats love to eat fish, cats are in fact obligate carnivores --- they eat meat that is comparable to their natural prey such as mice or birds out of biological necessity. A study conducted by the WALTHAM Center for Pet Nutrition found that 52 per cent of a cat's calorie intake is from protein, which can be synthe sized best through an animal-based protein diet. Therefore, cats require quality protein sources to be included in their diet for sustenance. Dr. Ramos, a practitioner from Vets in Practice and a pet nutrition specialist said, “Cats are con sidered as strict carnivores and they’re still highly related to their ancestors. Their teeth and skull conformation are actually designed to hunt and kill prey Animal-basedefficiently.”protein can help cats maintain healthy muscle structures and provide them with natural forms of amino acids. Dr. Ramos noted, “Animal source proteins like chicken can greatly contribute to the quality of protein in their diet and they do get appropriate amounts of essential amino acids from it.” She also said, “Adding certain sources of protein especially, animal sources, cats can easily process it, break it down, and use it up in their body.” In total, cats can internally produce 11 nonessential amino acids. However, the remaining 11 categories of essential amino acids can only be provided through a nutritious diet to meet their needs, “When you have good quality protein, the cat can receive a good amount of amino acids that are important for its health,” Dr. Ramos said. “The protein from chicken contains multiple levels of es sential amino acids, such as Lysine, Phenylalanine, Arginine, and Taurine,” she added. To help owners better maintain the health and development of their cats, IAMS has developed a line that is uniquely tailored for cats’ needs and has chicken as its number one ingredient.

Dr. Ramos recommends the IAMS brand to cat owners like herself, “It is necessary for cat owners to choose a diet that is made by a trusted brand: palatable, complete, balanced, contains high quality protein, and enriched with amino acids. This will play a key role for the proper development and normal functioning of cats and enhance their wellness.” The importance of considering the life stage of cats when feeding them is also crucial for cat’s nu trition. With this, IAMS’ food products offer differ ent varieties of cat foods–dry or wet and for each life stage, “For each life stage, there are specific recommendations for the amount to feed and the levels of nutrients that they need,” Dr. Ramos said. Having protein in your cat’s diet is vital for its overall health and long-term wellbeing! For more information about IAMS Cat, visit https:// iams.asia/ph/. For the same reason, the wives of fishermen kept black cats inside their homes. (Megan, Black Cat Spiritual Meaning Explained, Tuxedo-Cat.co.uk; Ameera Mills, Interesting Characteristics About Black Cats, 27 July 2022) An old Greek story that became popular during the turbulent Middle Ages may be where the no tion that black cats are unlucky first appeared. The cat helped Hecate, the goddess of witchcraft, after the goddess Hera punished one of her servants by turning him into a black cat. As Christianity moved across Europe, it tried to condemn the rituals of pagan cultures because it considered them as being in league with the Devil. Pope Gregory IX adopted the association of black cats with witchcraft and declared them to be symbols of Satan in 1233. Ever then, people have believed that the cats with dark fur are either demons in disguise or the servants of those who worship the devil. Now, as well as you can see, that is outright a ridiculous thing for the Pope to have declared at that time. 4. The most common fur color is black. The black color gene is the most dominant when it comes to coat color, even though the gene for a tabby coat is the pattern with the most frequency in feline DNA. This means that if two cats with the black coat gene conceive kit tens, the black coat gene will override the tabby pattern gene to produce a solid black coat. If both parents carry the black color gene, even if one of those genes is recessive, there is a greater likelihood that their offspring will be black. Ac cording to this, there are more black cats than any other color! (Ameera Mills, Interesting Char acteristics About Black Cats, 27 July 2022)

2. Black cats were NOT always associated with evil or bad omen. Black cats have romantic and lucky meanings in Japan and other countries Having a black cat as a gift will ensure a happy marriage for an English lady, while finding one on your doorstep in Scotland heralds impending fortune. Treat ing black cats with respect can bring wealth; the French refer to them as "Money Cats." Although British sailors frequently took cats on board to

5. Black cats are color-changing. The black color gene may have suppressed that tabby pattern, but it might still be present. Many black cats are actually tabbies since it takes another gene to totally override the tabby pattern in a cat. If you've ever noticed stripes while your cat was enjoying the sun, the tabby pattern wasn't completely suppressed. The more time these covert tabbies spend in the sun, the more their black fur will rust or turn brownish-red. How is this possible? The black pigment can be broken down by sunshine to expose colors and patterns that are underlying. (Ameera Mills, Interesting Characteristics About Black Cats, 27 July 2022)

1. Black cats used to be revered as gods. The goddess Bastet, who had the head of a black cat and kept watch over the women, the home, and the harvests, was represented in an cient Egypt by the black cat, which served as her corporeal incarnation. On Earth, cats served the same purposes and were frequently decked out in bling and treated like kings and queens. Every home owned a cat, they had shrines dedicated to them, and it was illegal to kill one without being executed. It is clear how significant cats were to the ancient Egyptians since they were also mummified in the same manner as hu mans.
