DOE sees bigger oil price Marcos positive for COVID, in isolation rollback of about P5 to P6 By Vito Barcelo, Mervin Vince Lopez, and Willie Casas

By Alena Mae S. Flores CONSUMERS will see a higher rollback in pump prices of around P5 to P6 per liter across all petroleum products by Tuesday, the Department of Energy confirmed on Friday. Rino Abad, DOE director for the Oil Industry Management Bureau, said the four-day trading mark showed a higher decline in global oil prices of around $16

to $17 per barrel compared to last week. This is higher than the $10 per barrel decline seen during the Monday to Wednesday trading days. Palace urged to declare state BBM sets up of emergency on food supply private sector council on agri

By Othel V. Campos and Maricel V. Cruz

THE Philippine Chamber of Agriculture and Food, Inc. (PCAFI) is urging President Marcos to declare a state of emergency on food sufficiency in the face of insufficient production and supply in the market and the rising cost of food locally and globally. Noting the government’s empty treasury, PCAFI president Danilo Fausto said the President can tap available funds to help tide the sector over until the crisis dissipates. “I would estimate that P1 trillion is available for lending from the Agri-Agra loan allocation. We can mobilize this. That is one

of the items that we would like to propose for mobilization of funds,” he said. The Agri-Agra Law requires all banking institutions to allot 15 percent of their total lending portfolio for agriculture loans and 10 percent for agrarian reform credit. PCAFI said the President can also encourage local government units to set aside a portion of their internal revenue allotment (IRA) and divert those to improving food production on the LGU scales. Under the Mandanas-Garcia ruling, LGUs are supposed to download P235 billion in 2022 from their share of taxes from the national government. “The agriculture sector can be assisted within their area of responsibility. Pastrana’s PPA nomination not CA upholds conviction of Ressa, writer revoked—Trixie NOBEL Peace Prize winner Maria Ressa has lost her appeal against a conviction for cyber libel, her news website Rappler said Friday, in the latest blow for the veteran journalist. Ressa and her former colleague Rey Santos Jr. face lengthy jail sentences, but the company said they will "avail of all legal remedies available to them," including taking the case to the Supreme Court. The ruling comes less than two weeks after authorities ordered Rappler to shut down ahead of former president Rodrigo Duterte's last day in office. Ressa, who is also a US citizen,

is fighting at least seven court cases, including the cyber libel case, for which she has been on bail and faces up to six years in prison. The Court of Appeals (CA) on Friday upheld the conviction of Ressa and Santos Jr. over a published story linking a businessman to criminal activities, Rappler confirmed.
