Du30 calls on people to rally behind Marcos govt By Joyce Pangco Pañares

PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte on Monday night called on Filipinos to rally behind his successor, President-elect Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., amid the daunting challenges the incoming

administration will face. “President-elect Marcos would need the cooperation and help of everybody. We must give it to him. That’s democracy. That is how we operate,” Duterte said in his televised Talk to the People. “We must all be united in confront-

ing the issues ahead of us. We have no room for politicking or actions that are divisive to the country. The people have spoken -- we already have our leader.” “Once the people have spoken as to the leader they want, we should follow. Next page

“Let’s see the trading prices this week, but the factors we cited would support an increase in prices. I don’t see a significant factor or event that would offset those factors at the moment,” Rino Abad, Director for the DOE’s Oil Industry Management Bureau, said. Another huge oil price hike is set to be imposed today, Tuesday, with diesel prices going up by P6.55 per liter, while gasoline prices will rise by P2.70 per liter and kerosene by P5.45 per liter. This developed as the Palace appealed to jeepney drivers and operators to post-

pone their planned transport strike this month, assuring them the government is doing its best to help them amid skyrocketing fuel prices. The factors Abad mentioned include increased fuel demand from the United States due to its summer driving season, the easing of COVID-19 restrictions in China, and the ban by most countries on Russian oil owing to its invasion of Ukraine. The Philippines imports more than 90 percent of its supply from the world market, and has no control on global Next page

DAR: P20/kilo of rice possible thru mega farm By Rio N. Araja THE Department of Agrarian Reform believes incoming President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. can lower the prices of palay and rice in the market to P20 per kilo through its “mega farm” project that will consolidate small and contiguous farm lots into big farms for rice production. Secretary Bernie Cruz said the agency has conducted several studies showing that the 150,000-hectare farm can produce an average of 142 cavans of palay per hectare per cropping season. This translates to an income of P76,501 a year for a farmer-beneficiary of the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program. “We will present this to President Marcos Next page
