Congress set to canvass votes BBM camp seeks respect for people's will amid plea to stop tally

ONGRESS will start the canvassing of votes for the presidential and vice presidential races from May 24 until May 27.
House of Representatives Secretary General Mark Llandro Mendoza said the canvassing will begin on May 24 at 2 p.m., while from May 25 to 27, it will be scheduled from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Under the Constitution, the election returns for president and vice president, duly certified by the Board of Canvassers of each province and city, shall be transmitted to Congress. Upon receipt of the certificates of canvass, the Senate President shall, not later than 30 days after the day of the election, open all certificates in the presence of the Senate and the House in joint public session, and the Congress, upon determination of the authenticity and due execution thereof in the manner provided by law, canvass the votes. New law gives honorarium to SK members By Vito Barcelo and Maricel V. Cruz ALL Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) members are now entitled to a monthly honorarium and other privileges after President Rodrigo Duterte signed Republic Act 11758, which states that SK officials should receive a monthly honorarium chargeable to the village-level youth organization’s funds. Duterte signed the law to expand the functions of the SK and revitalize the youth’s participation in local governance. The President also signed three other measures—on foundlings, firearms licenses, and cybercrime—into law, while issuing an executive order transferring control of the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) from the Office of the President back to the Department of Agriculture (DA) (see related story on A2 – Editors).
