HE Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) is endorsing the tandem of Ferdinand Marcos Jr. for president and Davao City Mayor Sara DuterteCarpio for vice president in the May 9 elections, multiple sources said Tuesday.
The INC leadership is expected to announce this officially with just six days left before Election Day. With around 2 million voting members, INC churchgoers are expected to follow the church leaders’ choice of candidates when they vote. Marcos and Duterte-Carpio are currently leading the presidential and vice presidential races, respectively, based on the Pulse Asia, Laylo Research and PUBLiCUS surveys conducted in April (see related story below — Editors). Previously, the Facebook group UniTeam BBM-Sara shared a YouTube video claiming the INC had already endorsed Marcos and Duterte. The video posted by Robin Sweet Showbiz on April 11 was viewed 110,223 times, but the endorsement was not officially denied by the homegrown sect. INC’s official website also has not posted any political endorsement. Next page

Filipino-Muslim community observes Eid’l Fitr By Vito Barcelo and Maricel V. Cruz
By Vito Barcelo A KEY witness in the drug case against Senator Leila de Lima on Monday retracted his testimony and accused former Justice secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II of coercing him to testify against her. Rafael Ragos, former deputy director for intelligence at the National Bureau of Investigation ( NBI), signed a sworn statement Saturday disavowing his earlier claim that he personally delivered P5 million to Ronnie Dayan, De Lima’s bodyguard at the time, at her residence in Parañaque City in November and December 2012. De Lima was Justice secretary at that time and the drug money was supposedly for the 2013 elections—even though she did not run in that year. “I now hereby declare and make known to the whole world that there is no truth whatsoever to any of these affidavits or House and court Next page

PRESIDENT RODRIGO Duterte joined the Filipino-Muslim community in celebrating the end of the holy month of Ramadan and giving thanks to the Almighty for sustaining and blessing them during the month-long fasting. “In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful, I join the entire Filipino-Muslim community in celebrating Eid’l Fitr,” Duterte said in his message. Duterte added: “May this even inspire you to remain models not only of the Islamic faith, but also of goodwill and compassion for all of humanity,” as he wished for the “blessed and meaningful celebration” of the end of Ramadan. “In this festive conclusion of the holy month of Ramadan, our Muslim brothers and sisters are given the chance to revel in the enlightenment and connection that they have received from Allah.” “We have been sustained greatly by Next page

EIGHT people died, including six children, when a fire ripped through a poor community in Quezon City on Monday and destroyed 80 houses, a fire official said. Another three people were injured in the blaze which started around 5:00 am on the second floor of a house in a crowded, informal settlement inside the sprawling campus of the University of the Philippines. It took nearly two hours to extinguish the inferno, Senior Fire Officer Greg Bichayda told AFP. An investigation into the cause was under way. The victims were trapped inside their homes as “the fire spread quickly,” Bichayda said. Their ages are not yet known, but he said six were minors. Next page
