Duterte names Teodoro, Villar his 2 top senatorial bets Palace assures PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte has announced former defense secretary Gilbert “Gibo” Teodoro and former public works secretary Mark Villar are his top two candidates whose circles he will shade in his ballot in the May 9 elections. During the President’s Chatroom aired

Business group warns outages may affect polls By Othel V. Campos THE Management Association of the Philippines (MAP) raised alarm Thursday over power failures that may affect the May 9 national elections. “It is imperative to develop an energy transition plan that places the Filipino and the Philippine context at its center, adheres to the key principles of climate equity and energy security, and supports the fulfilment of the country's development goals,” MAP said in a statement. For a safe and secure voting process, the group recommended addressing projected power shortages, particularly in the next 30 days, asking electricity users to adopt energy efficiency measures in their households, offices, and businesses. The group has also reminded the distribution utilities and electric cooperatives in major demand areas or the Greater Metro Manila to prepare for or

Rody to deliver land reform till end of his term THE Duterte administration will continue to push for genuine land reform and address long-standing concerns of farmers and indigenous peoples, acting presidential spokesman Martin Andanar said. Andanar issued the statement days after presidential candidate Ka Leody de Guzman survived a shooting incident in Bukidnon Tuesday where he was discussing alleged land grabbing cases with members of the Manobo-Pulangiyon tribe. De Guzman called on the government to address the problem of land grabbing which he said has led to mass exodus of IPs from their ancestral lands. “President Rodrigo Duterte remains committed to delivering genuine agrarian reform in the country,” Andanar said in a press statement. Citing government data, Andanar said the administration distributed 229,289 hectares of agricultural lands from July 2016 to May 2021, benefitting 166,217 agrarian reform beneficiaries. He said the government also issued 57 Certificates of Ancestral Domain Titles (CADTs), covering 993,345.17 hectares of ancestral domain, which benefited 257,047 indigenous peoples from 2016 to June 2021.
