ORMER senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio are leading the presidential and vice-presidential races in the National Capital Region, according to the latest Pahayag NCR Tracker Survey conducted by Publicus.

Over half or 51.6% of the 1,625 Metro Manila residents who participated in the survey conducted from April 8 to 13 chose Marcos as their bet for president, the firm said in a statement released Monday. Meanwhile, 51.3% of respondents chose Duterte-Carpio as their vicepresidential bet. The NCR-wide margin of error is +/- 3%, Publicus said.

It was the first time for Publicus to release presidential and VP survey results just for the capital region, the firm’s executive director Aureli Sinsuat said. In the March 2022 survey conducted by Pulse Asia with results released last April 6, Marcos got a 64-percent preference rating in Metro Manila, down slightly from a 66-percent score in February.

In the same survey, Robredo garnered 24 percent in NCR in March, up from 15 percent in February. As for the Social Weather Stations commissioned survey from January 28 to 31, Marcos enjoyed a firm grip on the top spot, and even gained seven percentage points after increasing his numbers from 43 percent in October 2021 to 50 percent in January 2022. Robredo was a far second with 19 percent. NCR has an estimated 7.3 million voters according to official Commission on Elections statistics. Next page

WHO warns of virus surge in May if people relax guard By Willie Casas THE World Health Organization (WHO) on Monday backed the Department of Health’s (DOH) warning that the country may experience another surge in COVID-19 infections by mid-May if minimum public health standards are ignored. WHO representative to the Philippines Dr. Rajendra Yadav said he had seen the DOH projections that a 50 percent decrease in compliance with minimum public health standards could result in 25,000 to 60,000 new COVID-19

cases per day by next month. “If we relax our guard, if we relax our defenses, then yes, it’s possible to get to those numbers,” Yadav told a press briefing Monday. Based on its models, the DOH said a 20 percent drop in health standards could lead to 34,788 active COVID-19 cases by mid-May. Of these, 564 could be classified as severe and 267 would be critical. A 30 percent decrease in compliance might increase the cases further, possibly to as high as 300,000 over the same Next page
