Garcia said Ferolino would call a meeting with the task force and draft the necessary guidelines. He said the task force would accept complaints on vote Next page

PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte on Tuesday night called out the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) for its failure to collect a certain estate tax due, saying it could help the cash-strapped government bankroll some of its programs. In his weekly televised public address,

Duterte said the BIR need not be reminded of its mandate to collect the estate tax. “The government can only prod. There is no need for a reminder from Malacanang. The BIR is there, so we should ask the BIR why it has not yet collected the estate tax,” the President said. Although the President did not name the party involved, Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez III said Wednesday the BIR is exerting all efforts to collect

the unpaid estate taxes from the heirs of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos Sr., which have ballooned from P23 billion in 1997 to about P203 billion today. But according to Partido Federal ng Pilipinas general counsel George Briones, the Supreme Court ruled with finality on the P23 billion in estate tax owed by the Marcoses, and not the remainder of the P203 billion which may still be subject to Next page reconciliation.

“I tell you that Lorraine Badoy is right,” the President said of the spokesperson of his National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC), which has been widely criticized for red-tagging critics of the administration. Badoy had earlier claimed that several members of the Makabayan bloc in the House of Representatives were cooperating with the communist rebels to “end” the government. Duterte identified these groups as the Kabataan, Anakpawis, Bayan Muna, Alliance of Concerned Teachers and Gabriela party-lists. “You can see in their behavior and the way they espouse their advocacy— really leftists,” he said, saying the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) has been Next page

Govt to give ICC info on seized drugs By Vito Barcelo and Joel E. Zurbano PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte has instructed the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency to provide rights advocates and the International Criminal Court (ICC) data on the volume of illegal drugs seized in the Philippines. Duterte issued the order during his weekly taped Talk to the People Tuesday night. “To those criticizing the government, I suggest the PDEA, if you are listening now, submit a report, all the data from different law enforcement agencies, to human rights groups. Give just one report, maybe from PDEA. Give it to the human rights advocates, those who bring

the ICC,” Duterte said. Duterte said human rights organizations critical of the current administration must see the drug war report to enlighten them about the gravity of the drug problem in the country. The President issued the directive after Interior Secretary Eduardo Año informed him during the Cabinet meeting that anti-drug operatives had seized illegal drugs amounting to P453,203,447 from March 20 to 26 alone. “So they’ll know, in spite (of) or despite our working double-time, how grave the problem is, that there is really still a lot of illegal drugs,” Duterte said. The President said human rights advocates, especially those who have asked the ICC to probe his anti-narcotics drive,
