PRESIDENTIAL aspirant Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Tuesday said he is okay with releasing his Statement of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth (SALN) in public if he wins the May 9 national elections, but added that it is still a government official’s prerogative to do so. In the presidential debate hosted by Sonshine Media Network Inc. of controversial pastor Apollo Quiboloy, Marcos Jr. said it is not a problem for him to make his SALN public. Previously, the former senator said SALNs could be weaponized for political attacks, and that giving the media access to the document may also be used by political opponents. All presidential bets present in the televised forum -- former presidential spokesperson Ernie Abella, labor leader Leody De Guzman, and former defense chief Norberto Gonzales apart from Marcos -- said they are okay with releasing their SALNs. The three-hour program also revealed the following statements from the participants: The four presidential aspirants agreed

THE camp of Senator Manny Pacquiao on Tuesday slammed the decision of the Makati City Prosecutor’s Office to dismiss his libel complaint against Apollo Quiboloy, saying a distinction must be made between mere criticism and the spread of fake news. In September last year, Pacquiao filed cyber libel complaint against Quiboloy seeking P100 million in damages for spreading “fabricated” claims about him. The complaint stemmed from a television appearance and social media post by Quiboloy in which he claimed Pacquiao, then a congressman of Saranggani, had misused funds for the unfinished Sarangani Sports Training Center. Quiboloy claimed that the project had cost the government some P3.5 billion.

Health chief says gov’t safety seal key to NCR shift to Alert Level 1

By Macon Ramos-Araneta and Willie Casas

METRO Manila could be de-escalated to COVID-19 Alert Level 1 by March if enough public and private establishments comply with the government’s safety seal certification program, Health Secretary Francisco Duque III

said Tuesday. In an interview with CNN Philippines, Duque said the goal of the safety seal program is to ensure that all establishments will have “very minimal or low to no risk” for those who will enter these places. Malacañang has announced that Metro Manila will remain under COVID-19

Alert Level 2 until the end of February. The government, Duque said, still needs to observe how recent gatherings and political activities for the upcoming May 9 elections will affect the COVID-19 figures. Duque also said Alert Level 1 will likely be considered the “new normal” scenario if the state of public health

emergency is lifted in the country. However, he said the public must still continue observing the minimum health standards even if the government finalizes its new normal action plan. He said Alert Level 1 is the lowest level while the country is in a state of public health emergency. Next page

to immediately formulate the rules to be observed for judicial proscription with the objective of upholding the rights of groups of persons, associations, or organizations,” the high tribunal said. Next page
