HE Department of Health on Saturday said it has detected a different COVID-19 variant – the B.1.1.203 – in a traveler who arrived from South Africa last month as the Philippine Genome Center urged DOH-accredited laboratories to hasten their submission of samples with the country bracing for the entry of the more transmissible Omicron strain. EO allows President to take over ‘ailing’ power cooperatives
Locsin: PH ‘dropped ball’ on 50m syringes FOREIGN Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin jr. said the country “dropped the ball” on a donation of 50 million syringes from the United States “We dropped the ball again; this time offer of 50 million syringes,” he said in a post on Twitter. “Discussed the need in Washington DC and got a response prepared to go into details with PH agencies but they refused to discuss the ball let alone catch it. First Pfizer, then Moderna. Ok, I see the pattern,” Locsin added. In December last year, Locsin disclosed that somebody “made a mistake” that caused the country to miss out on 10 million doses of Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines. PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte has issued an executive Order transferring the power to take over ailing electric cooperatives from the National Electrification Administration to the Office of the President. Under EO No. 156, the President may assume control of what could be considered as an “ailing” electric cooperative based on implementing rules and regulations under Republic Act No. 10531 or the NEA Reform Act of 2013. “While electrification of the entire country is one of the primary concerns of the government, certain distribution utilities, as well as ailing cooperatives, continue to underperform, and thus hamper government efforts for the country’s total electrification,” Duterte said in the EO. Oil prices to increase by P1.50/L AFTER five consecutive weeks of oil price rollbacks, pump prices are expected to increase by as much as P1.50 per liter on Tuesday.
