TOKYO—Eumir Marcial sent fellow pro Arman Darchinyan reeling to the canvas in a first-round knockout win that installed the Filipino middleweight in the semifinals of the 69-75kg division and assured the Philippines of another medal, a bronze, in the Summer Olympic Games at the Kokugikan Arena here on Sunday. Described by his Australian coach Don Abnett as “more powerful now,” Marcial showed proof by connecting with a right hook to the face of the Armenian, who was counted out by referee Perez Olivares of Colombia at 2:11 of the opening round. “Right hook ko ang naka-knockout sa kanya.

Gov’t eases up on transport Asean: PH takes on equal access, sea row to make way for vax rollout By Macon Ramos-Araneta and Rio N. Araja
By Macon Ramos-Araneta PUBLIC transportation will likely be allowed even under the upcoming enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) in Metro Manila so that people can get vaccinated, a spokesman for the National Task Force against COVID-19 said Sunday. In an interview with Dobol B TV, task force spokesman Restituto Padilla Jr. said the government aims to inoculate 250,000 people a day amid the strictest quarantine level from Aug. 6 to 20.
“There will likely be a less strict policy for the transportation sector because Secretary [Harry] Roque already said the vaccination will continue,” Padilla said in Filipino. “Even as we impose ECQ, there will be an increased ramp-up of the vaccination.” No guidelines have yet been issued on transportation during the two-week period under ECQ beginning Aug. 6. Interior Secretary Eduardo Año, meanwhile, said more police will be deployed to Metro Manila vaccination Next page

Oil price hike set: P1.10/liter By Alena Mae S. Flores CONSUMERS have to brace for a hefty oil price hike of up to P1.10 per liter this week that reflects the movement of prices in the world oil market. "Expect fuel prices to go up next week (August 3 to 9). Diesel will increase by P0.70 to P0.80 per liter. Gasoline will increase by P1 to P1.10 per liter," Unioil Petroleum Philippines said in its advisory. A report by Reuters on Friday said world oil prices went up amid growing demand, with vaccinations seen to lessen the impact of renewed resurgence of COVID-19 infections worldwide.
According to Reuters, analysts believe increased vaccinations would limit lockdowns that could affect demand. Meanwhile, the expected oil price increases this week are a reversal of the oil price rollback implemented by the oil companies last week. On July 27, the oil companies rolled back prices by P0.75 to P0.85 per liter for gasoline, P0.60 to P0.70 per liter for diesel, and P0.60 to P0.70 per liter for kerosene. These resulted in the year-to-date adjustments to stand at a total net increase of P12.85 per liter for gasoline, P10.30 per liter for diesel, and P8.70 per liter for kerosene. Next page
