ACE shields need only be worn in hospitals, the Palace said Thursday, saying this was the new policy set by President Rodrigo Duterte.

The Inter-Agency Task Force, however, recommended to the President the continued mandatory wearing of face shields in enclosed and indoor spaces, including hospitals, schools, workplac-

es and commercial establishments. “While waiting for the President’s decision on the matter, the existing policy on the use of face shields remains in effect,” presidential spokesman Harry

Roque said in a statement. Earlier in the day, Roque said the President agreed to make face shields mandatory only inside hospitals. “The President did say that the wearing of face shields should only be in hospitals. All I’m confirming is the President said that and of course what the President said becomes a presidential policy,” the Palace official said in a press briefing. Roque made the remarks after Senate

President Vicente Sotto III, in a Twitter post earlier Wednesday, said Duterte has agreed that the public should only be required to wear a face shield when they go to hospitals. Sotto, during a Senate Committee of the Whole hearing on Tuesday, noted that the Philippines is the only country in the world requiring the use of face shields in public spaces. SENATOR Aquilino Pimentel III on Thursday said PDP-Laban acting president and Senator Manny Pacquiao would be a “good choice” for the ruling party’s standard bearer in the upcoming 2022 national and local elections. “I think he (Pacquiao) will be a good choice of the party to push for president, but of course, running should be voluntary, the person should be

willing to run for that particular position,” Pimentel said in an ANC interview. Meanwhile, Pacquiao and Pimentel said separately they would not attend the rul-

Pimentel sits as executive vice-chairman of PDP-Laban of which President Rodrigo Duterte is the national chairman. “PDP Laban President Sen. Manny Pacquiao will not attend the said activity led by (Energy) Sec. (Alfonso) Cusi & his group,” said PDPLaban Executive Director Ron Munsayac in a Next page
