By Vito Barcelo MALACANANG said Wednesday President Rodrigo Duterte might visit China this year or before his term ends to personally thank Chinese President Xi Jinping for the 600,000 doses of Sinovac-made CoronaVac Covid-19 vaccines donated to the Philippines. The Chinese government donated 600,000 doses of the Sinovac vaccine to the Philippines and the President wants to personally thank President Xi Jinping for the Sinovac Biotech vaccines which arrived last Sunday. Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said the President might visit China at the end of the year when everything had settled down. It was not yet clear whether this year or in 2022 but Roque said Duterte intended to make a short visit to China to just shake hands with President Xi Jinping and to personally thank him for this donation. THE Philippines has called for the immediate release of Myanmar leader Aung San Suu Kyi, ousted and detained after the military seized power through a coup d ‘etat on February 1. Foreign Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. made the call as he appealed to members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations during its Informal Ministers Meeting on regional and international issues on Tuesday to support the restoration of status quo in Myanmar or a situation prior to the military takeover of the government. “Our call is for the complete return to the previously existing state of affairs: with respect to the preeminent role of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi; alongside the Army her father created for the protection of the people he led to freedom and the country he gave them at the cost of his life.
