HE government would consider a forced repatriation of some 7,600 Filipinos in Iran and Iraq should conditions there endanger their lives, the Palace said Monday as the President urged Congress to allocate funds for a massive Middle East evacuation. “If the conflict poses a risk to their safety, then the government will do it,” Presidential Spokesman Salvador Panelo said. PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte on Monday signed the P4.1-trillion 2020 national budget, and of which a big portion is allocated for social services and infrastructure development. House Majority Leader and Leyte Rep. Martin Romualdez welcomed the budget’s signing. “This is a pro-poor GAA that will carry the President’s continued commitment of social payback to make the life of Filipinos comfortable,” Romualdez said in a statement. He said the budget priorities included social services, peace and security and infrastructure to support Duterte’s Build, Build, Build program. Senator Sonny Angara said the 2020 GAA could be described as the first legacy budget of the Duterte administration.

VICE President Leni Robredo on Monday took a swipe at the Duterte administration’s war on illegal drugs, saying the government was able to confiscate only less than 1 percent of the country’s shabu supply and drug money in three years.
