Court ordered the counsels of petitioners, including losing senatorial bet and De La Salle University law dean Chel Diokno and Andres Palacios from the Integrated Bar of the Philippines, and Solicitor General Jose Calida to refrain from publicly commenting on issues involving the pending case. The order comes on the heels of public statements made by both camps after

fishermen from Palawan and Zambales disowned the petition filed by the IBP, saying it was done without their knowledge and consent. Calida, during oral arguments on July 9, submitted to the Court the affidavits of 22 fishermen, stating that they were unaware of the IBP’s filing of the kalikasan petition on their behalf. RESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte is “seriously considering” cutting diplomatic ties with Iceland after it spearheaded a UN resolution to probe his deadly drug war, the Palace said late Monday. The comments from Presidential Spokesman Salvador Panelo came in response to the UN Human Rights Council last week backing the Icelandproposed resolution to review the killings. “The adopted Iceland resolution is grotesquely one-sided, outrageously narrow, and maliciously partisan,” Panelo said. Duterte launched the anti-drug crackdown in 2016, and since then police say they have killed over 5,300 drug suspects. However, human rights groups say the true toll is four times that number. By MJ Blancaflor SINCE President Rodrigo Duterte has signed into law a bill penalizing sexist remarks toward women, he will be the first one to obey it, Malacañang said Tuesday. Presidential Spokesman Salvador Panelo said President Duterte will follow Republic Act 11313, or the “Safe Spaces Act,” which imposes penalties for unwanted sexual actions or remarks

against any person. “Since the President signed that law, it means that he recognizes the need for that law. Since he’s the chief enforcer of all the laws in the Philippines, he’ll be the first one to obey it,” Panelo said. Duterte, whose rape jokes have sparked outrage in the past, drew fresh flak Tuesday after signing R.A. 11313, with the campaigners saying his role as the “misogynist-in-chief” would make implementation challenging.
