Dump Smartmatic—Rody Seeks fraud-free Comelec partner

RESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte on Thursday urged the Commission on Elections to end its partnership with Venezuelan-owned poll technology provider Smartmatic amid numerous complaints about its efficiency, and find instead a “fraud-free” partner.

In his speech during a gathering of the Filipino community in Japan, the President said the countless complaints and allegations in recent midterm elections created a “hostile attitude” toward Smartmatic. “I would like to advise Comelec, now, I wouldn’t wait anymore, dispose of Smartmatic and look for a new one that is free of fraud,” Duterte said.

Parojinog’s son draws life term in jail for shabu By Rio N. Araja THE Quezon City Regional Trial Court on Friday found the son of the slain Ozamiz City Mayor Reynaldo Parojinog Sr. guilty of illegal possession of prohibited drugs.

Branch 79 Judge Nadine Jessica Corazon Fama sentenced Reynaldo Parojinog Jr. to life in jail and to pay a P500,000 fine. “The prosecution was able to prove beyond reasonable doubt that on July 30, 2017, the accused was in possession of more than 50 grams of shabu,

LPG price rollback: Petron sets big-time cuts By Alena Mae S. Flores PETRON Corp. on Friday announced it will cut the price of its cooking gas by P6.25 per kilo, or P68.75 per 11-kilo tank, effective June 1 to reflect the lower contract price of liquefied petroleum gas or LPG in the world market. “Petron will implement a P6.25 per kg rollback in LPG prices effective 12:01 a.m. June 1,” the oil firm said in its advisory. Petron markets the Gasul brand nationwide. “Auto LPG will likewise decrease by P3.45 per liter at the same time. These reflect the international price of LPG for the month of June,” the firm said.
