DAY after declaring a measles outbreak in Metro Manila, the Health department on Thursday expanded the scope of its alert to other regions of Luzon and Central and Eastern Visayas, as the disease claimed at least 24 lives last month.
Most of the dead are children and the toll is expected to rise as more cases are confirmed of the highly contagious disease, which has made a worldwide resurgence in recent years. Health Secretary Franciso Duque III advised the public to bring their children to the nearest health facility for treatment at the first sign of fever.
