your corruption in Customs right in front of me. P***** i** niyo. Now you have a problem,” he said. “They say, ‘Please tell the mayor that not all of us are corrupt.’ That’s true. But why is it that many entered into shabu? [smuggling]?” he said, clearly frustrated that billions of pesos of the illegal drug have managed to get past two of his former Customs commissioners, Nicanor Faeldo and Isidro Lapeña. “Faeldon is a Marine, Sid is a police. They do not know, so I said men from the Army might be better,” he said. Next page

UNDAS MESSAGE

‘Alleviate the suffering of others’ By Nat Mariano and Macon Ramos-Araneta PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte on Thursday asked the Filipinos to remember their departed and encouraged them to help “alleviate the suffering of others” during the observance of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day. In his statement, Duterte said he was one with the Christian faithful during the holidays. “We Filipinos welcome the month of November with open hearts as we remember our saints and our dearly departed loved ones, whose lives have

deeply inspired us to grow in faith, hope and love,” Duterte said. “We are reminded that, even in death, our bonds with them remain.” Duterte then called on the nation to “honor those who have gone before us in the grace of God.” “Their legacy remains an important part of who we are today and we have much to gain from their virtuous example,” Duterte said. “May their deeds inspire us to become advocates of peace and solidarity as we do our part in building our nation and alleviating the suffering of others.” Next page

Rody sets criteria for ‘chosen few’ in coming polls; list out after Xmas PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte said Wednesday he will campaign for “corrupt-free” candidates in the 2019 midterm elections. He also said he will announce his bets after Christmas. “I will campaign. Not now, maybe after Christmas. Then I will announce my choices, who those people are,” Duterte said in a speech in Cagayan de Oro Wednesday night. He was there to lead the distribution of Certificates of Land Ownership Award to 3,400 agrarian reform beneficiaries.

He then listed the qualities that candidates must have to recommend them to the public. “I told them that I only have one requirement: Competence, and if you have the capability and if you are honest,” Duterte said. “That’s my only requirement. That’s a standard for all of them to follow. Do not ever make a mistake, especially with corruption. I will support you as long as you are not corrupt and if you have the capacity.” Next page
