Five Pinoys abducted by armed men in Iraq, Libya; PH pleads for assistance By Rey E. Requejo THE Philippine government has sought the help of the authorities in Iraq and Libya to secure the release of five Filipinos who were abducted by armed men in the two countries. Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano said the Department of Foreign Affairs made the request after he was notified by Philippine embassies in Baghdad and Tripoli about the separate incidents of abduction. “We are in touch with authorities in Iraq and Libya and have requested their
assistance in locating and securing the release of our missing countrymen,” Cayetano said. Reports indicated that two Filipinas were abducted on Saturday on a road connecting Baghdad to Kirkuk. Chargé d’Affaires Julius Torres said the women were with two other Filipinas and were on their way to Baghdad from Kurdistan when armed men stopped their vehicle. A FILIPINO and his four daughters died in a car crash near Townsend, Delaware, while on their way home from a vacation, state police said Saturday. The man’s wife, 53-year-old Mary Rose Ballocanag, who was sitting in the front passenger seat, survived the crash, initial reports said. The family was cruising along Delaware Highway 1 on Friday when a pickup truck hit their car as it crossed the
road’s grassy median strip, Ballocanag’s aunt, Lydia Agas, told ABS-CBN News. Agas said Ballocanag was sleeping during the accident and woke up with her husband’s lifeless body across her lap. A Fox News Report identified Ballocanag’s New Jersey-based husband as Audie Marquez Trinidad and their daughters as Kaitlyn, 20; Danna, 17; and twins Allison and Melissa, 13. Trece Martires City Vice Mayor Alexander Lubigan, 44, and his driver Romulo Guillemer, 58, were shot dead by gunmen while travercing the Trece Martieres-Indang Road onboard a black Toyota Hilux in Barangay Luciano Saturday. In Lanao del Sur, Municipal Councilor Nassif Palawan Bansil was shot dead after five gunmen entered a house where he was in and opened fire, wounding three others. On July 2, Tanauan City Mayor Antonio Halili was shot by an unidentified gunman while attending the morning flag-raising rites at city hall.
