Minimum wage hiked in 9 regions; NCR still assessing THE daily minimum wage for workers in the private sector in nine regions will soon be raised, Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III said Sunday. “Daily minimum wage adjustments vary across regions as per recommendations of [their] respective [regional tripartite wage and productivity boards] after different stages of consultations with labor and management representatives from various industries,” Bello said. Among the regions to implement new wage orders are Region III with a P20 daily increase, effective on Aug. 1; Region IVA with a P9.45 daily increase, effective on April 28; and Region VI with P8.50-P26.50 daily increase with P5-P15 cost-of-living allowance, effective on July 12. PH can’t go to war with China, says Esperon NATIONAL Security Adviser Hermogenes Esperon Jr. said Sunday the Philippines is incapable of waging war against China to assert its rights in the West Philippine Sea. He made his remark following the results of a recent Social Weather Stations survey showing 87 percent of adult Filipinos deemed it important for the Philippines to regain sovereignty over the islands occupied by China in the West Philippine Sea. He said he agreed with the others who

believed the Philippines should assert its territorial claims in the disputed areas. He believed the government could just send troops to the West Philippine Sea and defend the country’s claims. “We cannot go to war [with China]. We all know our own capacity,” Esperon said. He said territorial dispute should be settled through diplomatic means. THE local government units of Dagupan City, San Carlos City, Sta. Barbara, Bugallon, Mangatarem and Calasiao in Pangasinan have declared a state of calamity due to flooding. Avenix Arenas, spokesman of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office in Pangasinan, said Sunday the whole of Calasiao had been flooded since Saturday while Dagupan City’s central business district and other villages were also flooded. Oil price rollback set at P1 per liter OIL companies expect a price rollback of up to P1 per liter this week to reflect the movement of world oil prices. “Expect fuel prices to be lower.
