VP POLL RECOUNT: ROBREDO LEAD NARROWS BY 21,000 VOTES By Rey E. Requejo A MONTH after the Supreme Court, sitting as the Presidential Electoral Tribunal began its official recount for the contested 2016 vice presidential race, the lead of Vice President Leni Robredo over her closest rival, former senator Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has been reduced by more than 21,000 votes. A PET insider, who spoke on condition of anonymity for lack of author-

ity to speak for the tribunal, disclosed that as of Wednesday, the margin of votes between Robredo and Marcos of 263,473 in the official tally during the canvassing has been cut down to about 242,000. Besides the 50-percent threshold for the recount that initially cost Robredo over 5,000 votes, the source said the significant deduction in her lead was attributed to “other votes deemed not acceptable under PET rules.” Next page
