Divorce bill won’t allow ‘drive thru’ marriage split-up By Maricel V. Cruz THE proposed dissolution of marriage disallows “drive thru” or “no-contest” or “quickie” divorces, one of the bill’s authors in the House of Representatives said Friday. Opposition and Albay Rep. Edcel Lagman said the substitute bill on divorce approved last Wednesday at the committee level provided that “no decree of absolute divorce shall be based on a stipulation of facts or confession of judgment,” which prohibited what he called a no-contest divorce. “Coerced petitions and convenient collusions are also prohibited,” Lagman said. New anti-terror unit boosts SAF
MIAMI—All the world’s wild horses have gone extinct, according to a study Thursday that unexpectedly rewrites the horse family tree based on a new DNA analysis of their ancestry. What most people thought were the last remaining wild horses on Earth-- known as Przewalski’s horses--were actually domesticated horses that escaped their owners, said the report in the journal Science. “This was a big surprise,” said co-author Sandra Olsen, curator-in-charge of the archeology division of the Biodiversity Institute and Natural History Museum at the University of Kansas. “This means there are no living wild horses on Earth—that’s the sad part,” Next page said Olsen.

HE Philippine National Police is set to form additional five battalions of police commandos—a maximum 4,000 men—to enhance the government’s fight against terrorists and all forms of threats to the country’s internal security.
PNP chief Director General Ronald dela Rosa said the formation of the five battalions of the Special Action Force was created solely to combat terrorism and criminality. “The mandate of SAF is more on counter-terrorism and internal security operations. That’s our main concern at the present that they will have to focus on,” Dela Rosa said. The creation of the battalion of SAF forces complies with President Rodrigo Duterte’s directive approved by the National Police Commission. At present, SAF has an existing seven battalions of police commandos and the new complement would eventually increase its capability to suppress threats to national security. The 4,000 SAF personnel would be deployed to different areas particularly in Mindanao where terror threat prevails. The new SAF would complement the various anti-terror units of the Armed Forces currently deployed in known terrorist areas like Basilan, Sulu, TawiNext page Tawi and Maguindanao.

Cayetano said he informed President Rodrigo Duterte about the arrest of Nader Essam Assaf, a Lebanese national, who together with his wife Mona, a Syrian national, are the principal suspects in the brutal torture and murder of the 29-year-old domestic helper from Sara, Iloilo. “The President welcomes the news that Nader Essam Assaf is now in the hands of authorities in Lebanon,” Cayetano said in a statement. “Assaf’s arrest is a critical first step in our quest for justice for Joanna and we are thankful to our friends in Kuwait and Lebanon for their assistance.”
DAVAO CITY—The Hugpong ng Pagbabago, a regional party chaired by Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio was officially launched Friday with support from four Davao governors. Du30 opts to skip Edsa rites for Davao PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte will not attend the 32nd anniversary of the Edsa People Power Revolution on Feb. 25, People Power Commission member Pastor Saycon said Friday.
