“There are many people who want to be part of the BTA because it is very historic. They [Emmanuel Fontanilla and Montaha Babao] also applied but were not included. I believe they are making these statements for selfish and personal reasons. More importantly, they are not authorized to speak for the MNLF,” Galvez told Manila Standard. Galvez was reacting to a claim by Fontanilla, reported by CNN Philippines, that the MNLF would not recognize the BTA because it was not a part of it. But Galvez told the Manila Standard that 14 members of the 80-man BTA represent the MNLF, of which nine were nominated by the group headed by Nur Misuari. The government also named three people who have worked very closely with the MNLF. The Moro Islamic Liberation Front also allotted two out of its 41 seats in the BTA to the MNLF. Next page

CEBU CITY—President Rodrigo R. Duterte issued a stern warning Sunday that he will make the remaining years of his presidency the “most dangerous years” for people who are into drugs. Duterte noted during a sortie of the ruling party’s senatorial candidates here that illegal drugs have created social dysfunction that directly affects Filipino families. “Consider my last three years as the most dangerous years for people who are into drugs either pusher, trafficker, or drug lord… I will make it very dangerous for you to live,” Duterte told Next page
Allies score gov’t policy on Chinese workers By Macon Ramos-Araneta SENATE allies of President Rodrigo Duterte as well as opposition senators on Monday rejected his view that the government should accommodate illegal Chinese workers as a way of protecting hundreds of thousands of undocumented Filipino workers in China. Senators Panfilo Lacson and Joel Villa-
neva said that even though there are many Filipinos working illegally in China and other countries, Philippine laws must be strictly enforced. “First of all, we have immigration laws to obey and adhere to. No exception please—Chinese, Japanese, Americans, even from planet Mars,” Lacson said. “Whatever the President says, I would rather that we give premium to Filipino
workers by deporting foreign nationals illegally working here, and worse, taking away scarce job opportunities from our own countrymen,” he added. Villanueva, also a member of the majority bloc in the Senate, said “If you are illegal, you have no right and you are not protected by laws. So the bottom line is enforcement of laws to protect workers’ rights and our Filipino first policy.” Next page

PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte on Monday called on all Filipinos to uphold the power of their votes as the country commemorated the 33rd anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution. In a speech, the President recalled how Filipinos turned the tide of the nation through a bloodless revolution. “As the entire nation prepares for the upcoming midterm elections this May, let us always remember how this historic revolution restored our power
to collectively chart our future through the ballot. May we all have a profound sense of appreciation and understanding of what we lost and what we reclaimed,” Duterte said in his message. Filipinos showed the world three decades ago that “history can be rewritten without the need to resort to violent means,” the President said. “Indeed, the peaceful revolution that brought together Filipinos from all walks of life during those tense four days of February 1986 has given rise to a Philippines that was reborn from the ashes of its tumultuous past,” he said.
