Asked to comment on the opposition On Wednesday, Pimentel said Duterte’s senator’s assertion, Senate President Aq- six-year term may be extended “if really uilino Pimentel III said in Filipino: “I’m necessary” and “if he is amenable to it” busy. That’s a waste of time.” during the transition to federalism.

Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque, on the other hand, said Duterte does not want to extend his term and would rather “cut short his term than lengthen it.” He offered a similar message Thursday, saying a term extension was “out of the question.” Roque reiterated the President’s pronouncements that should the Constitution get amended to pave the way for a federal form of government, he would even resign before his term ends in 2022. “The President is considering shortening his term but has definitely rejected

“There appears no real need for her to appear at this point because the evidence thus far presented has been wholly inadequate to establish any or enough impeachable offense to justify the filing of the articles of impeachment,” Cruz said. But he said that Sereno appreciates Alvarez’s assurance that she would be treated fairly if she appears before the Next page impeachment hearing.

Sara Duterte lands on Magic 12 of preferred Senate bets in 2019 THE President’s daughter, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte, said Thursday she would seek a Senate seat only if her father’s critics push her into doing so. The mayor made it to the so-called “Magic 12” of two surveys released by an online news site on preferred candidates for the 2019 elections. “As long as the enemies of President Duterte don’t irritate me, then my slot should become available to all the yellows,” she said in Filipino, referring to the Liberal Party, which uses the color yellow. The mayor said being “a responsible Dabawenyo, whether in public office or as a practicing lawyer,” was her contribution to nation building. “If Davao City is strong, then that is the Dabawenyos patriotism at work,” she said. In a survey attributed to the Social Weather Stations, Mayor Duterte was ranked n i n t h a m o n g preferred senatorial candidates for 2019.
