Petron said it is also increasing its auto LPG prices by P2.75 per liter at the same time. “This is to reflect movements in the Next page

DU30 DARES MORALES, SERENO

Let’s all resign now Anti-graft probers in for tough times By Bill Casas and Rio N. Araja PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte has said he would not cooperate with a special anti-corruption prosecutor’s investigation into allegations he acquired ill-gotten wealth, and told Deputy Ombudsman Melchor Arthur Carandang that he had better start praying, because if the country went to the dogs, he would go after him first. The Office of the Om-

Carpio-Morales

budsman said last week it was investigating claims Duterte’s bank accounts had hundreds of millions of pesos that he failed to disclose as required by law. Duterte responded by lashing out at the Ombudsman, calling the agency “lousy” and saying allegations against him were “lies based on baseless” information. “I will not submit to the jurisdiction [of the Ombudsman],” Duterte said in a curse-laden speech to lawyers Saturday night.

“Waving fabricated evidence, lying to his teeth in front of the nation and then you want me to submit to the jurisdiction of the Ombudsman,” Duterte said, referring to Carandang. Duterte’s remarks contradicted his spokesman’s statement last week that the President respected the Ombudsman and trusted its impartiality. House: Impeach-Sereno Rody blows top over ‘onion-skinned’ remark F. Pearl A. hearing starts Thursday ByGajunera By Rio N. Araja ORIENTAL Mindoro Rep. Reynaldo Umali on Sunday urged Supreme Court Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno to appear in the impeachment proceedings or deprive herself of the chance to cross-examine the witnesses against her. Umali, chairman of the House committee on justice, told dzBB radio that the proceedings could start on Thurs-

day or Monday next week. He said only Sereno could cross-examine the witnesses and not her lawyers, and that Congress would respect her right to do so. “If she will come, the panel may allow her to confront the witnesses subject to the approval of the members. One thing is for sure―her rights will be respected,” Umali said. “Should we vote for the sufficiency of grounds, then Next page

Group wants PH delisted from UN rights council A GROUP of human rights defenders and ecumenical leaders is calling for the removal of the Philippines as a member of the United Nations Human Rights Council as a result of the Duterte administration’s continuing denial of extrajudicial killings in the country.

DAVAO CITY—President Rodrigo Duterte reacted angrily Saturday to the statement of the president of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines, who said public officials should not be onionskinned because “a govern-

ment official holds his life open to public scrutiny.” “Who the f--- are you to tell me [not to be onionskinned] in the face of fabricated evidence?” Duterte said, addressing IBP national president Abdiel Dan Elijah Fajardo. During his speech at the installation of new officers

and induction of new members of the IBP Davao Chapter, Duterte tore into Fajardo, who was sitting a few chairs away from him. “There’s a lawyer who says do not be too onionskinned, even in face of fabricated evidence illegally obtained,” Duterte said. Duterte reiterated that he

would immediately resign if it is proven that he has P200 million in his bank account, as alleged by his political nemesis, Senator Antonio Trillanes IV. He added that the documents presented by Trillanes and Deputy Ombudsman Melchor Arthur Carandang were all fabricated.

AVAO CITY— President Rodrigo Duterte challenged Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno and Ombudsman Conchita CarpioMorales to resign together with him before the Congress, saying both officials have been tainted with corrupt practices. At the installation of new Integrated Bar of the Philippines officers in Davao City, Duterte said there was already a case filed against Sereno. Morales, on the other hand, should have acted on cases filed long ago, instead of focusing on the case against him, which was not true. “You are in on a selective justice, p--------,” he said, “I challenge the two, we will go to Congress, in a simple ceremony, we sign the letter of resignation. Sige nga [Come on]. Then let us open all the books, even yours,” he added. Duterte issued the challenge after Deputy Ombudsman Melchor Arthur Carandang announced that his office was investigating transactions in the joint bank accounts of Duterte and his children that allegedly totaled in the billions. Duterte has denied the allegations and said the documents upon which they were based were fabricated. He also said it puzzled him that the Ombudsman obtained documents showing his alleged bank transactions when the Anti-Money Laundering Council already issued a statement that they did not release any records of Duterte’s bank accounts.
